hmmmm... so i have a 1998 legacy gt limited :) (BD) AT :( black with black leather :) with 180,000's miles on it and i got it and a month later the trany started to go causing the guy at the repare shop to blow the head gasket so now its got a new engine and a new AT with 80,000 on them but the engines dirty and not pretty looking at all, it has a very minor valve cover gasket leak, the bodys got rust on the trunk corners and both back fenders and i think the springs are going bad (but im guna get new H&R ones ne way.....sooooo

do i A: fix rust (already started to) clean the motor, get new gaskets, new springs, new exhaust, CAI, pulleys ect...., do the interior up custom and the works then eventually swap a 5 or 6 speed MT into it

B: got a 5 speed BD GT and fix it up a bit

or C: save a little longer and get a....a.... :-? wrx
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok im guna leave that up in case but i think im guna go with B

but now im wondering to get another BD or a BE

i would like to attend some autox in the futer but for right now its just guna be my daily driver/minor project car (CAI, exhaust, rims, springs or coil over ect...)

You need help spelling too.

It's your money, but I wouldn't put any additional money into a car that has extensive body rust. I also wouldn't modify an auto for any serious lap-work.

But have fun with it. Just don't expect to get what you put in, in terms of $$$.

I vote for B or C. Sounds like the car still runs, so just drive it until it falls apart and then buy something else.

These LGTs and WRXs are cheap now. $7000 is not an unreasonable budget for an 02 WRX. Even less for a BD GT.

Post pics of the body, one persons view of "a lot" of rust can be different from the next guy.

^^ check the URL again... This site doesn't start with an 'N'...

Though I agree fully with your post

@ OP: You need to host the pics through a photo sharing site such as Photobucket.com and paste the links it generates for each picture into the image tags on the forum.

For example [*img] PHOTO URL HERE [*/img] Leave out the asterisks of course

Or you can create a link like this: Click Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)

Looks good....

and BTW my answer is:

B: get a 5 speed BD GT and fix it up a bit.

I priced out doing a 5mt conversion, and it would've been easier and cheaper to just buy 1.

That rust isn't too bad, get that fixed then start to do some work on other things. As for the rear quarter extension panel with the dent I have a brand new replacement. PM me if you are interested.

A: When making posts, try to clean up what you're trying to say, (i.e use correct spelling, try to use punctuation), it makes it easier for people to read what you type, and understand.

B: Sell it and buy a Vespa.

quit it with the txt-chat crap, you will find that you will get better answers if you sound like a human.

I wouldn't mod that car. Too much rust.

sorry kind of a habit

so im looking for a new one, if i got a manual whats better a BD or a BE? is there any real difference besides 200lbs. same exact engine pretty puch same HP same size tires. just the interior is a little updated

Huffer
09-24-2008, 04:52 PM
Different engine - the BE has a SOHC 2.5 that is less prone to HG failure than the BD's DOHC. also the BE has a MAP intake which means intake mods are easier to bolt on...

The SOHC is also smaller, which means doing sparkplug changes is easier, and it's lighter.

Mod-wise the BD is more friendly - less complicated rear suspension. Size-wise the BE is better, roomier interior and more comfortable for cruising.

thanks

dont dohc's of the same displacement usually have more power and a better tourqe curve?

ScaryFatKidGT

which one is easier for engine mods besides intake, like fuel injectors, ecu and stuf?

exhaust is probably pretty much the same right?

I'm going with option B on this one. You'll be a lot happier, IMO, and you'll still be driving the car that every Subaru owner knows is best...the Legacy!

Nope. That's a myth.

the SOHC is easier for mods - it's smaller, lighter and when you get cams done you only need to do two instead of four.

Exhaust is essentially the same, yes.

Nope. That's a myth.

It may be true, in general, with most engines, but with the NA 2.5L Boxer-4 the performance gains are almost nothing. I wonder if this is because the boxer-4 motor is in a unique situation when it comes to camshafts - 4 camshafts for a DOHC configuration.

Sorry guys, I should have been Subaru-specific. :)

ScaryFatKidGT

www.cars101.com (http://www.cars101.com) is subaru-specific and pretty accurate.
