Hey guys. Just got some new wheels for cheap this weekend. Sort of torn about which ones I like the most - old ones or new ones. What do you guys think?

OLD (2008 17x7 WRX wheels with RE92s)

old for OEM look, new for modified look.

Pick which look you want :)

That is a very tough one...

I'm a huge multi-spoke fan, but I also have a set of seven-spoke winter wheels that I really like.

I think the GT wheels look ever so slightly better.

The GT wheels get the nod even with the crappy pic from the non-sunny side of the car.

Oh and keep in mind, no clear coat has been applied to the LGT wheels (I couldn't wait :) ) I'll probably add the clear this weekend for some more shine.

You forgot to add "cell-phone" :)

They both look great on your car, but I give the edge to the Legacy GT wheels.

The LGT Wheels look better...

What size are the other wheels?

The WRX wheels would look good painted. But my vote goes to the LGT wheels

So, I'm going a little sideways here and taking a trade that was offered to me for the LGT wheels the same day I got them. I was contacted based on my reply to the FS thread for them where I said they were sold to me. I'm getting 05 WRX 16" wheels and tires plus $100 cash. I like em cause they're light and rare, and look great against white. I'll do a post comparing the two WRX wheels next

You're an OEM wheel whore.

I would still stick with the 05 17x7 - they fit the BE's better than the 16x6.5.

$100 cash isn't much, it's about 2 tanks of gas.

I really am an OEM wheel whore. I'm not a fan of +48 offset or 225 tires :)

so you sold those lgt rims?

Ryan

It'll be a trade with cash happening tonight after I get out of work. These will be the 6th set of wheels my car has seen since March

I would say go for the LGT rims and paint them gold

I dunno, IMO LGT wheels are played out. They're not bad, i just see them everywhere now...

From a performance perspective, switching to a narrower wheel...meh.

Different strokes for different folks. Those wheels can't be very rare, They're all over the place around me.

I don't know what the production counts are but they were made for one year, and only WRX (not RS). So minus the size, they're sort of like RS goldies. I like the style too; I had the 16" BH/BL wheels on my last 00 LGT and I thought they looked good. Not too concerned about performance since my only other mod is a GC8 front strut bar. If I had your engine then it'd be a different story :)

Those rims were standard on the 04 Legacy GT's actually...but in silver :shrugs:

As long as youre getting what you wanted.

Yeah I pretty much am. I wanted to get some extra cash for home heating oil for the winter and with the sale of the 08 WRX wheels, that'll cover 1/10th of what I need for the winter.

I'd keep the LGTs just cause they're gunmetal... I might do mine now

Just an update, I've chosen the 2005 WRX wheels that have 0 curbing to get me through the winter as I wait for another member to give up his B4 Blitzen wheels next year ;) Sorry for the cheezy driveway cell-phone cam picture.

Anybody got any 16" tires laying around? Two of the RE92s could use some more meat.

The bronze and white look great together! I also had/have the '05 WRX wheels on my car. I LOVE them. They came from my boyfriend's car so we still have them and I use them as my winter wheels while he uses my snowflakes.

So my new wheels inspired me to do some light modding this past weekend. Oh and I did my 150k mile fluid changes

Cleared corners in the headlights:

And sprayed the tail blinkers red:

How did you spray the tails red? what did you use? Looks good.

Ryan
10-07-2008, 07:52 PM
Very easy to do.

1) Buy 1 can of this Testor's Translucent Candy Apple Red at a hobby store or online for $4: http://www.hobbylinc.com/gr/tes/tes1605.jpg
2) Remove tails from car. Just three nuts and then push them out by hand.
3) Clean tails and rub down with rubbing alcohol to get off any wax.
3) Tape off all the area that is not orange.
4) Spray one heavy coat and let dry for twenty minutes.
5) Spray a second heavy coat and let dry for at least 12 hours.
6) Remove tape/paper. No clearcoat needed.

And there you have it.

Sorry Ryan - it's true

Looks clean though! I've always liked the 06/07 wrx wheels on BE's.

Did you spray your fogs yellow too? Or is that something you can buy? Sorry, total noob.

Nope, I used clear yellow vinyl overlays. I just got a 12x12 square and custom cut them out.

Thanks, I just found a DIY for putting the vinyl on, seems easy enough. Did you get yours locally or online?

Just noticed you're from Fitchburg. I live in Leominster, small world! I'll be on the lookout for your car, still got the WRX seven spokes on there? Here's a pic of my new baby:

Nice car. Want to sell it? :) I actually haven't had my BE since May when I got a WRX. Sold that then I bought a Forester XT for the wife and am now shopping for myself.

Same for me. I ordered them on ebay

seller: extremevinyls

It's my first winter with the vinyls and they are still intact

I think by the time that winter was over they were frosted pretty well from rock pitting.
