Sunday is my birthday and the B-day cards are filled with money and I want to buy something for my car. I have enough to buy a rear sway bar from whiteline (BSR12XZ) or the Hella Supertone Kit. Cant buy both which is the dilemma.

On the one hand the sway bar is an easy instal.
On the other hand it is more expensive. $174

On the other hand the Hella is only $64 and I would have cash left over.
The only problem is the instal. I am a Ubernoob when it comes to electrical stuff.

So I am torn between the two.

An advice?

Go with the sway bar. You'll be happy that you did, trust me.

So with the sway bar what will i feel that will be so great?

I can't believe you'd ask that question. If you didn't know, why would you even contemplate getting one?

The Whiteline RSB will reduce your car's body roll dramatically - Hella supertones will just make a bunch of noise.

Dude, get the rear sway bar.. I ordered the adjustable street one but they didn't have any shipped me the adjustable race one.. right now it's at I think 22mm and wow.. the back end is so tight and doing doughnuts in the snow is yeppppy!

Add some whiteline control springs and kyb gr-2s and you're suspension is top notch. Now i need some solid endlinks and a front sway bar

For the rears, not really. Unless youre one of the unfortunate ones that ends up getting some clunking with the rear bar...but I haven't heard of the WL bar doing that, only the IPD ones (which unfortunately I have).

SpeedElement over at NASIOC told me this;

"Id recommend them. The stock ones are weak and flex with larger bars.

KLC26 rear endlinks are $118 shipped".

So what should I believe?

Has anyone ever had any problems with the stock Endlinks with the WL bar?

Because I haven't had one before and I have no idea what the difference will be. that is why I ask. I guess I should know how it will feel before i buy it?

Long story short: Less sway, more even weight over the tires, faster, more planted cornering.

Cough...cough...That's what she said...

Seriously, though, most people who buy Legacys (or at least Outbacks) get at least a new rear anti-sway bar for their first mod. Many get front and rear with awesome results. The anti-sway bars are the Legacy's downfall.

I built 3/4" anti-sway bars for my old Camry after I retired it to a beater rally car. It's amazing.

More than likely I will be just driving it around town. A grocery getter. I am not into auto X or anything like that. i just want a little more control.

Looks like I will be going with the sway bar.

Also I should have mentioned earlier that i also have front and rear strut bars. If that matters.

I would get new endlinks. What's the point of a new beefy bar if you have the cheap flexible plastic endlinks?

The BE rear endlinks are not plastic, they're sealed, heim jointed steel units like on the STi.

And the only cases I've heard of these kinds of endlinks breaking (more likely the heim joint with the bolt will pop out of its socket) is either you tweak the car's suspension (ie accident) or you run a really big bar. 22mm is not a big bar at all. I'm talking about 27-29mm autox units that some sti's run.

In your case, the only reason why I would buy new endlinks is if you get the clunking issue.

Well some say get new endlinks and some say dont. After looking at the prices for new ones I think I will wait. If my links fall apart I will have to have a new pair rushed to me damn the expense!

I dont plan on running the car hard I just want a bit more control in my turns.

Hmmm...that's too bad, since the new rear anti-sway bars will give you TONS of control compared to what you have now.

Just be prepared to re-learn how to drive the car after you get them.

Forget Hella's.. I have them, they're a waste of time.

I'll be selling mine to get this:

It's a motorcycle horn with a mini compressor attached to it. It's louder, more efficient, smaller and costs a whopping $40.

You already have springs so the change isn't going to be *that* dramatic given that you don't really push your car to begin with (you mentioned above that you use your car daily but it's a grocery getter).

I got both hella and WL RSB, the sway bar was just awesome!

I installed the sway bar with group A endlinks as well. cornering is so much better!

This is kinda OT but I have the 20mm adjustable rear sway bar, when i was doing the installation, it had 2 holes but i didnt know what was the difference between the two so I just picked a random one and bolted on.

Can anyone tell me the difference?
The reason I asked because the bar didnt come with any instruction. :(

After going to that site I am sold on the Moog rear Endlinks. $26.97 per end link. And they look pretty beefy. IS there any way these will not work with the whiteline sway bar?? Does anyone know?

Another question, Am I going to have any clearance issues with the new sway bar and my Stromung cat back?

jg09
10-01-2008, 05:15 PM
As for compatibility with the Whiteline rear anti-sway, there shouldn't be any issues, but don't destroy the original packaging and throw away the receipts just in case (but we do that for all our parts anyway, right?). And about the clearance with the cat back, I can't say for sure, but I'd assume no issues would arise.

The reason I asked because the bar didnt come with any instruction. :(

The one towards the end is the "soft" or "20mm" setting, the one going towards the bend is the "hard" or "22mm" setting.

Start with the stiffer setting, then really push the car to its limits. Back off if you find you're getting too much rotation...at least that's how they say to try them out anyway.

The Outback guys are popping their endlinks because that IPD 22mm bar is actually a little thicker than the equivalent WL bar, and it has shorter ends...basically the extra suspension articulation they have coupled with the increased stiffness of the IPD bar is just putting a lot more strain on the stock length endlinks.

Don't forget to grease those Moogs every few months. They'll squeak otherwise.

Oh and I just replaced my miata endlinks with the WL ones...after 2 years of midwest corrosion, one of the heim joints started to get a little bit of freeplay.

I have a question about installing the sway and end links. Do I need to remove the rear wheels to install the bar and links? Would it be better to take it to a lift and do it my self?

I am expecting the links today from fedex and ups says the sway bar is supposed to be here today but I doubt it.

You shouldn't have to. Unbolt the bar from the bushings, unbolt the end links, and take it out. Installation will be the opposite.

back the car up onto ramps - unbolt the endlinks. Lift, turn and twist the swaybar out, install new one in reverse. Bolt endlinks back up.

Done.
DON'T do it on a lift - it's easier to do it when the wheels/suspension are preloaded.
