I just installed a Voltmeter Gauge from Autometer and so this is the first time I've actually watched the voltage to see how much it swings.
With minimal load (car running with no lights or accessories, it will sit around 14.2 - 14.4 volts. As I turn on accessories such as headlights, fog lights, rear defrost, HVAC Fan, wipers, etc... I can actually load the system down to where it's sitting down at 12 volts or just below, even if the engine is operating at 2000 rpm or so. I was surprised by this, but perhaps it's normal.
Could this indicate a possible problem?
Is there anyway to reduce this swing range?
Input would be appreciated!
