View Full Version : Fuel gauge woes

So, I did the gauge lights mod last weekend, and it turned out pretty sweet, but while I was sanding off the fuel gauge, I must accidentally bumped the needle and I forgot where it was to begin with. I put it back to about where I thought it might have been, but I guess I was wrong, cuz when I was @ 1/4 tank, my low-fuel light came on.

And after the long explanation, here is the question: I noticed that the fuel gauge isn't spring-loaded to return to "E" every time the car is turned off, which made me wonder if it would continue to drive past "F" (pegged) if I filled it up. If it would, then that would fix my problem if I went ahead and just filled it up. Theoretically, If the motor DOES keep driving even after the needle stops, then the needle will truly represent "F" and then proceed to drop as the fuel level normally lowers.

Anybody got any ideas? I'm really tired of removing that cluster, but I might just have to. *sigh*

fill the tank up full and adjust the needle to the F

yeah it'll run past F when you fill up

had to take my gauges out 3 separate times to get that needle lined up after swapping in the new gauge faces

taking needles out is SCARY but like above; go fill up and then set the needle where it should be
