Need to check front diff clearance. Good mechanic San Diego?

Hello

On this site somebody told me that the grinding noise I am hearing is most likely something to do with my front differential clearance. Can I check this myself? If not, anybody recommend a mechanic in the San Diego area?

If there are a lot of metal shavings in it, you're screwed. Even if not, I'd get it looked at. Anyone can do it, not just a Subie mechanic. What I'd do is get a manual for your car and see how it recommends accessing the front diff. Once you get to it, check around the ring and the pinion. Use a feeler gauge and make sure that you can get the thickest gauge between the diff housing and ring and the diff housing and pinion.
