View Full Version : Missing 2 Header bolts

As the title states I noticed today during a oil change I was missing two header bolts. I remember when we installed the Borla Header that getting the bolts out was a bitch. Looks like i am missing one blot from each side.

How much of an issue is this? Do I need to go to a mechanic ASAP?

do you notice any exhaust leaks? You should see some soot around the header flanges or heads if that's the case.

If not, you're fine.

I went to a do it your self auto shop and the mechanic said as I was pulling in that it sounded like I had a exhaust leak. We looked under the car and there were two header bolts missing. I had no Idea they were missing. So he heard it before he saw it.

You can just get correct sized studs and nuts from a Hardware store. That's what I did with some of the bolts on my Borla header. I had one back out on me as well.

I am fairly cretin that the holes are striped.

If the holes are stripped out you'll need to get replacements studs and a heli-coil kit. Take the headers off and install the helicoils and new studs in the stripped holes, then re-install.

I just had the repairs done. They had to helicoil one hole and just add a new bolt to the other missing bolt. All is well with the header. Once that was done the mechanic said I had a leak between the header and the cat. Now I need a new gasket. Where is a good place to get one. I have the random tech cat and borla headers.

i reccomend a full metal style gasket. either oem or napa might sell them

Are there any companies that sell maybe better ones then OEM?

napa does sell full metal style gaskets. they might be wagner gaskets. but from my luck the composite gaskets leak because they only seal on the inner metal ring so if you dont get them to sit just right they will leak

I am looking at Remflex.com and they have thicker gaskets but I am not sure which one i would need. RF8006 or RF 8007. I talked to a guy at remflex and he said that these two might work. But he wasn't 100% with out measuring

Buy an OEM gasket. They're a couple of bucks and readily available.
Don't waste time online when you can just stop by the dealer.

it is a flange gasket I am talking about right?
