Odd noise during acceleration

Anybody got any ideas on this?? When I accelerate, my 95 legacy wagon makes a rubbing/grinding noise that goes away after I am up to speed. It's hard to describe the sound but it only does it from what I can tell on acceleration. It makes about 5 or six clicks then when the car shifts, it makes the noise again until I'm up to speed. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Does this happen at every shift or is it just when you're shifting the lower gears? How loud is this sound?

Sounds like it could be the same problem.

Only sounds like it does it in lower gears. Sounds almost like a tire rubbing the inner fender but checked the inners and they are fine. Also should post that front pads are in very good shape and checked for play in the wheel bearing and found no to speek of.

Forgot to mention, the noise sounds like somoene is tapping on the floor with a hammer during acceleration. It starts out slowly but then gets faster until it shifts.

Could be an exhaust heat shield vibrating

Not a heat shield noise, I've got that too, it is a lower sound than the normal tinny sound from a heat shield. More of a knocking sound. I am thinking it could be a CV joint or gear slap but not sure.

I just installed a new front axle shaft with CV joints and the noise appears to be gone. I noticed the other day while driving with the window down that the ticking sounded like it was coming from the front driver side wheel. I figured for 75.00 plus a little time I'd just replace the axle shaft on that side. I drove the car for about 8 miles stopping and starting and going up to road speed and didn't hear the noise :smile: So hopefully it's fixed.
