So I was a bit inspired by HeresMyMind's thread about changing the color of his dash buttons https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=10875

But I didn't want to change color, only that I always got annoyed that my cruise control wouldn't always be on when I restarted the car.

However, the FOG light button is one of those "always on" types even when there's no power running to it (ie. headlights off/on).
Basically, the fog button can be depressed to be defaulted on regardless of whether or not the car is running.

So last night I took the foglight button and swapped the base over to the cruise button so that when I press the cruise button it'll activate the cruise module whenever I start the car.

I have yet to reinstall the cruise button to see if it works, but visually there was no real difference between the electricals of the buttons.

I've seen this kind of mod done before (though not on a subaru).

The problem you're going to run into is that the cruise switch is actually a momentary switch.

When you press the button, it grounds one pin on the cruise ecu, which engages cruise, then another pin on the cruise ecu grounds the circuit to turn on the light in the button.

With your mod the signal wire on which the cruise ecu expects a momentary ground will be grounded all the time. I don't know if this will cause problems, but I would be very cautious.

Interesting thought. Maybe add a circuit breaker? or fuse?

Crapnuts. So that means that potentially the cruise module will draw power all the time? I'm really bad with electrical work other than just "on and off".
