So I've been working on my 97 Outback lately and every time I reconnect the negative battery cable, the stupid alarm goes off! Is there a way to disable this? Can I just unplug the alarm speaker?

My speaker is disconnected...came that way. Now just the corner lights flash until I disable it.

Thanks for the reply- I see the cable for the alarm speaker in the engine compartment but where does it plug into the alarm unit?

Is there a way to disable this?

Universal electronic disabling method: snip, snip!

Haha - Very true, and now you've given me an idea; ill just solder a little toggle switch and mount it under the dash

Mine was cut right at the speaker itself apparently. The wires just hang out in there.

Yeah, I would just cut the whole thing, but its too much fun to trigger it while people walk by...

ROFL

I do that to people with the "Panic" on my keyless entry. I love to do it to people who park next to me and accidentally set off their car alarms when they get in...the look on their face when mine goes off right after their's is freakin' priceless!!! You can tell they hate it.

Just yesterday I saw some kid put his trash on the hood of my car, so I just hit the panic button on my remote and watched the show... I think I gave the kid a heart attack. LOL

Like you said, priceless.

Nice! I did that once to a guy who sat on my hood. I've never seen a fat guy move so fast!

Now I just need that hardcore Russian system that activates huge flamethrowers when someone gets too close...

I've seen that before! That is sick! I would've loved to do that to this bitch who slammed her minivan door (obviously not the sliding one. lol) into my car when I was in it. She wasn't even really looking and she didn't even look like she was sorry. She just looked back at me like it was my fault for parking there. I would've loved to barbecue her.

If you have the factory CodeAlarm installed, then each time you unplug the battery, it will reset the alarm. Rather than disconnecting the speaker alarm, re-attach your negative terminal, then turn your ignition switch to the on position, don't crank! While ignition switch is on, reach under then driver side panel and look for a black push button switch which is usually located on the driver side upper kick panel. Hold the button down until you hear and see the power locks activate 3 times, the alarm will chirp 3 times, too. Once you hear this the alarm is now reset. You can turn off you ignition and your key fob should now be functional again.
