so i have been looking for PIAA replacement HID's(6600k). stok is 3600k. for the most part they cost over $400 bucks($473 from PIAA) for these bulbs. i just found and orderd them off amazon for $286(215 cheaper). if anyone out there has stock subaru HID's(japanese BE/BH5 headlight assy) should jump on this in a heartbeat. its a good deal.

eh. Mine is aftermarket, although cheap...it still emits as much light as the really expensive ones. I have 6k, bright as day

do you know what size bulb it uses? There's only like 2 that I know of...I don't think subaru would be that stupid to design their own proprietary bulb...
The d2/d1 bulbs can be bought on ebay for much less...

well, for the sake of completeness I guess. It's not like philips and hella aren't something to be ashamed of (considering those two pretty much pioneered HID tech)...

and to date phillips 85122+ are the brightest OEM DOT approved bulb. Unless you get the phillips Dl-50's which are made for 50watts.
either or you over paid. and stock HID color temps are 4300-4900k. 3600k would be gold. 6600k would be blue.
you could of bought all OEM mats. Denso, Mats, or Hella ballasts, and new phillips (85123 d2r) bulbs for 200$. and the quality would be higher IMO. i have yet to see real PIAA HID that are even DOT stamped. let alone on any car to begin with. PIA halogen bulbs that say HID on them are NOT hid. they are just overpriced ricer bulbs. with films on the bulbs themselves to create a diff color output, which actually DIMs the output because it is filtering all colors out but that 1. you should read up on head lighting some more. maybe than u'd end up with some hella' nice lights. like mine or RogueBen's

if you havent seen my lights than shut your mouth. PIAA has been making bulbs in japan for a long time. there not just a film like you say. i took my HID bulbs out of my car, found out i had 1 PIAA & 1 Phillips HID bulbs. the phillips one is the reason im replaceing my bulbs. its dim and blows. from what i have read PIAA was the first to have HID. also i dont care about DOT . they can blow my ass for all i care.

Well not only did you make yourself look like an ass. *applaud*.
you made yourself look even more uneducated. You probably have a old 85122 bulb that is color shifted and old hence the *dimness*. and PIAA HID lighting is no where near performance wise to Phillips. Phillips 85122+ is brightest OEM bulb. and if you want brighter Phillips DL50 (only 50watt OE Bulb). So before you blow up with more ignorance look up specs with LM output. I guarantee my s2000 projectors w/ either my DL50s or my 85122+ bulbs blow your PIAA's out of the water.
There are plenty of HID write ups here. and goto HIDPLANET.COM for more info. and reprocess relearn then reply with an apology.
(also the film on bulbs is on their halogen bulbs they claim to be hid, NOT their actual hid bulbs. learn your lighting)

first off i am an ass, and proud to be one(maybe if there were more in this country we wouldnt be such vagina's). second dont start in on me when you were the first one to start it. also i dont have to make myself feel better by calling ppl noobs.
stock HID bulbs are 3800kelvin(not gold, look below). you should do some more research before you talk also noob. 6600kelvin is a slight blue.
Typical color temperatures are 2800K (incandescent), 3000K (halogen), 4100K (cool white or SP41 fluorescent), and 5000K (daylight-simulating fluorescent colors).
also PIAA HID bulbs are DOT approved. called PIAA myself and asked them. where it says HID on PIAA halogen bulbs they mean that they have the look of HID(one of the perks of being able to read japanese).
Phillips 85122+:
The 85122+ is designed as a reliable higher Lumen alternative to the standard Philips 85122
The 4300K color temperature puts out a bit more blue light compared to the standard 85122.
The renowned Philips qaulity is still there, these are sure to last for another 2500 hrs.
Has a life 8.3x longer than a new standard halogen bulb.
Will work with all 35W ballasts with P32D (D2S/D2R) bulb plugs.
Perfect for those looking for OEM reliability, but still want a bit more color.
OEM on many new Lexus, Nissan, and Infiniti vehicles.
if you say stock HID temp is 4300k, why would upgrades like the Phillips be 4300k? hmmm answer is you didnt do your research before you opend your mouth. wow. sucks doesnt it.
also i only have to buy bulbs i didnt have buy extra peices for my car. the HID's i have are stock. this includes the ballasts.

well lets see here.
85122+ bulbs are 4300k lm output. rated at 4900k. they DO NO COLOR shift unlike the regular 85122 bulbs. they were meant for reliability NOT color difference. 2 if your piaa bulbs were anywhere close to being DOT approved it would state it on the bulb and the package. Got either?
So you should do some more research. here is a link READ UP

and i didn't start anything. i was ONLY claiming you can get equivalent or even better results for less price than what you pay. You started the pissing contest with rude remarks. all you have is hear say. Show PROOF that ur DOT approved and I'll take back my wards. but guess what? you cant.
people like you are the reason why companies like INJEN succeed. Overpriced companies charge more for the same shit just to put their name on it. so people think they got the best.
you sir. are a not only making yourself look worse. You're entertaining me at work. so thanks.

PIAA 9000 Series Bulbs are DOT/SAE compliant and are street legal in all 50 states and Canada.

No car company uses PIAA in their HID's in the US from the factory, that's probably why PIAA bulbs haven't been tested by the DOT.
They're fine either way, it's just bulbs.
I still maintain that PIAA's are some of the most overpriced products for what you're getting though...I mean $470 for one bulb is almost twice the cost of the parts for my retrofit (including an extra set of headlights). There's often cheaper and better alternatives out there.
Bottom line is its your money :shrugs:...

either of those would be DOT approved if 1 was. the other would be too...
I am not trying to start a fight. im really not. I was trying to help you. Like rogueben said. Our retrofits cost as much as your bulbs do. and are the same quality lighting. d2r are for reflector housings...d2s are for projectors. point is, just cause u want PIAA is fine. just admit its cause uw ant piaa. not cause they are the best. or better then OEM parts... if they were. they would be OEM.
and you got your info all wrong with hid colors cause u got it from PIAA
OEM bulbs are 4300-4900k

im not trying to fight either. on some drugs since i had sergury yesterday. i talked to my freind(works at a subaru dealership in japan) he even told me that the OEM replacement for the HID bulbs is 3800kelvin. i dont have retro fits like you have the JDM headlight assy that came with HIDs.
HeresMyMind
10-22-2008, 11:18 PM
the jdm HIDs use d2r reflectors. OEM is 4300k. 85126 bulbs. D2R.
http://i5.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/e6/32/b132_1.JPG
AND I doubt they rock 3800k for OEM there, mainly because the lowest temp u can get made by any OE manufacturer is 3000k by phillips which is 85122YX and is yellow yellow. the dl35s are at 3900-4100. but those arent OE anywhere. an until I see proof. of this stuff u are rambling, u are just another Person thinking they know HID.

below is a copy of an email i got from PIAA today. if you want i can fwd it to you.
From: "Service" <service>
To: dogwood_112@yahoo.com
All of our bulbs are DOT approved and legal for the road. The HID bulbs
are legal and approved as replacements only they are not meant to take
the place of a Halogen bulb as that is illegal in the USA.
Thanks

well. i called them earlier and thought i posted but it never showed up.
I called the PIAA north american branch and had a nice convo with a moron on the other line. heres the conversation
b- hi I noticed that you carry d2s and d2r HID bulbs, are these bulbs DOT approved.
piaa- They are DOT approved for offroad use (WTF DOES THAT MEAN HAHA)
b- Then how come they are not stamped DOT approved on the bulb like the rest of your halogen bulbs and packaging.
piaa- You would have to ask the department in Japan since they are produced there.
b- How can I get a hold of them.
piaa- I am not sure, what is your email address and I will get back to you
b- *CLICK*
.
So they probably told you they are but left out the fine print, Im sure they were just trying to "sell" the product more. These bulbs are not actual DOT approved nor are they OEM in japan. Japan has markings on their bulbs too. with something like 13779 or some BS like that. its on our JDM headlights.
So IF I were you. I would give them back for a refund. go buy a pair of 85126+ D2R bulbs for your jdm reflectors. (best output bulbs for you)
and take the 350$ difference and drop it into mods or even an actual retrofit.
just trying to educate the masses here.
