grumble water pump....

my water pump decided to go and off itself yesterday
doesn't seem to even be pumping coolant

hooray i get to do that later today :(

might as well change the timing belt while your at it. (if you havent done so in a long while)

Timing belt and water pump are what I'll be doing when I work on my car. I keep putting it off and putting it off, but I really know I shouldn't.

timing belt was done 8k miles ago along with ( so i was told ) the front main seal <- *was done, the oil leak stopped* and the water pump but i think they used a "used" water pump because the replaced my ac compressor with a used one....

Rule of thumb, belts and seals are CHEAP (money cost) it's always a good idea to change these parts if you are opening up the engine. Always do your timing belt unless you did it your self not too long ago. NEVER take anybodies word for it was done unless you have receipts pr some other kind of proof.

SOoooo more great news today
water pump decided to tease me and work a little, then it quit agian
so i went to advance auto bought the water pump
no proplem so far
started tearing into the front of the car, took the rad out flushed it set it aside
took out the thermostat ( new ) flushed the block out
so it was time to start taking the covers off and we start with the crankshaft pully it was so loose that when my brother in law broke it loose he said that he thought he slipped off the bolt nope it was just that loose

take the pully off get the cover off, i am reminded to make sure i dont loose the sheer pin i go to grab it and a small chunk falls out

i go ahead and change the waterr pump and start to look at seeing if its just the sheer pin that needs to be replaced

nope not that simple, turns out the crankshaft sprocket has twisted a little bit appartently throwing the timing off.

well so i know the sprocket needs to be replaced so we do (inlaw and myself) as the book says and use 2 screwdrivers and pull gently welll not only does this not get the very stuck sprocket off it breakes on of the metal points off the back that the crankshaft position sensor uses so it now HAS to be replaced

no idea how much that is going to run me :(

but seeing as i can trace this all back to where i had the dealership replaced the front main seal i am going there tomorrow to "raise cain" about this.

any suggestions?

wait how did the crank sprocket twist? its shares the same keyway as the pulley

correct, by not having the any torque on the bolt that holds the crank pulley and sprocket on it allowed the pulley to snap the end of the sheer pin off, and then the for whatever reason the crank sprocket twisted on the crankshaft effective locking the sprocket onto the crankshaft

at least the dealer said that they might be able to fix it i'll have to wait till friday to speak with their mechanic though

wooo the beast is back on the road! cooling issue fixed, new key and timing belt sprocket :D

and this has to be the easiest car to get the timing right on!

and i got $60 from the dealer bc of the water pump going bad so soon after they replaced it
