launched on wet pavement last night

Did i light launch on wet pavement last night, and it seems like all that happens is the front tires seem to spin for a bit. what da hell...i thought it was like a 50/50 setup in the Legacy gt? I have a 97 btw. But yea... any other people notice the same thing?

If you have a manual you have 50/50 split.

If you are doing a launch you will have the rear end squat which results in traction being applied on the rear wheels.

To get all 4 wheels to slip on a launch you will need
a) shitty tires
b) crappy surface
c) a lot of power
d) new axles

I take it you have a manual right? Like Huffer said, manuals are 50/50 split. The autos are something like 90/10 (i'm most likely wrong). If you're spinning with a manual, you either have a lot of power, you're an ass (sorry, all in good fun), something is wrong, or a combination of the three.

Don't 'pop' the clutch out like a FWD car, or you can damage things; vital things.

Only 1st and 2nd positions give 50/50 split. Normally is yes, 90/10.

don't worry...lol i slid into it...didnt drop it... did that once when i first got the car and was the biggest mistake ever. Car bogged out and jerked and i looked stupid.lol

Also where i did the launch is quite possibly the slipperiest (ya i made a word) road in the city when wet.

one other thing i noticed was the car felt like it went left and right a little bit,only right away when the front tires were spinning. probably just the front diff trying to pick sides. or could just be how the road was.

Personally I think its a bad idea to launch a Subaru period unless it is an STI which has the stronger drivetrain. Getting wheels to slip and then grip is hard on the car especially in the rain because the shock of suddenly "catching" can break stuff.

Nice writeup for a Turbo launch. N/A is diffrent, we dont have max or low boost, so might as well skip launching and just throw the dang thing in first and press the gas.

Me? I launch Hard. Just never on a fully Prepped drag strip, if you race to be competitive, be prepared to break something(but its never always the case), i started to launch at 6k after i keep getting my ass kicked off the line by FWD cars.

its been about 15 saturdays about 4 runs per night i have been doing this and the car is still healthy.


If any of you Tow cars or anything with your N/A Subaru's, BEWARE, It stresses the drive train just like launching Plus its over a longer period.

It won't necessarily break something though. Just cause excessive wear so it will break later on.
