I think probably the best exhaust note i have ever heard (besides maybe a supra, Z06, or a bugatii) is a wrx STi. I want one so bad every time somebody goes buy me with one giving it some gas

and sense i have a pulley and intake and stuf coming and my exhaust heat sheilds rattle alot (with 2 hose clamps under there ,cant figure what elce is making the noise) i figure its the next thing to do

but i have a BD gt now and i was wondering how could i get that sound out of it, low througty growl but still sound like a car not like a huge truck, or close to it. I know its not turbo and a STi is so it will be a little different but yea

what kind of headers? hiflow cat? what size piping a STi is 2.5" right?

would the SPT axle back be close to the STi muffler

or should i just look around for someone selling a full STi exhaust (i see someone on here is selling a WRX one)

Check the sound clips section and see what different people have. It seems some of the better sounds I've heard involve a full header back system. Borla headers, some form of a high flow cat (Stromung), a Stromung midpipe, and either an SPT axle back or Stromung axle back.

That muffler you posted is quite a bit more than the one on eBay and I believe it's the same.

haha thats exactly what i have been doing (on the sound clips thread)

I know what you mean. Some of those clips are hard to hear because of the camera mic and the upload to the Internet. I bet they sound better in person.

I think they are only like that when you have equal length headers... right now.. i just have the SPT catback.. and it sounds pretty sick with the boxer rumble.

just as stated before
Headers - Borla or Borla replicas
High Flow Cat
Some sort of after market cat back with pipping wider then stock

you should be fine after that and achive your desired sound.

camera was actually my cell phone..lol and i intended to run it over but thought i had it propped up good enough that it wouldn't fall... all in all , it falling turned out to be a pretty sweet effect.

and thanks for the props...it sounds even better in person... and the best part...i got it passed by a cop as quiet enough for the streets! ( didn't rev at wot...hahahah)

I'll jump on this bandwagon! Your ultimate exhaust: Un-Equal length headers (borla or replicas), Stromung high flow cat, Stromung mid pipe, and Stromung axle back. I think this is dplacencia's setup. You could go for that, but most combinations will give you that Subaru sound. Just as long as you don't get equal length headers.

And seriously dude, capitalize and use punctuation marks!

I second that, I've got UEL borlas and the Stromung axle back and it sounds phenomenal. I would imagine it would sound even more awesome with the cat/midpipe.

Wouldn't unequal length headers give uneven power to the cylinders because the exhaust would be different leangth or doesnt it affect that at all?

One does give up a few horsepower for the "boxer gurgle".

what headers do sti's have do they fit a leg GT?

I would have to go with a negative on the sti headers fitting on a n/a lgt. for one, there turbo headers so they might bend and follow a different route than the n/a headers.

scaryfatkid....you get my pm? you coming to visit at the end of the month?? pm me back..lol

So y do these things make a 90 degree bend at the end? Isnt that counter productive?

Why dont they just make them like this?

Because then it wouldn't be a bolt on to the stock type cats, and that would also make it exactly like an OBX. Which is equal length, theoretically more efficient at exhaust scavenging, may make a few more horsepower and, (drumroll) does not have a "boxer gurgle".

thats borla headers (not replicas). stromung high flow cat. and SPT axle back with my stock midpipe (stock mid pipe with cat + resonator). The stromung mid pipe will be going in tomorrow I can take another video when its all done

borla header, random tech or any high flow cat, and stromung catback! sick sound, even for an N/A like mine.

Well, if you're bent (get it?) on reducing the amount of bends in your exhaust, you can try what this guy did with a set of cheap WRX ebay headers:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/01/header-1.jpg

It has to be that specific type though, I think its the SSAC one...
