totally kicker...you get what you pay for when it comes to subwoofers and audio equipment. I would buy one Kicker Subwoofer and that should be enough to rock your car. Don't really know much bout' amps.

well I have 2 12" EAW's that one needs to be reconed but I have the kit I just need to get it done. they go for about 1200 a piece but I'm willing to do less. by the way they are for concerts not originally for cars. 6000 watt max a piece.

There are plenty of "good" brands on the market. Which one is right for you is going to depend highly on what kind of music you listen to and how much bass you'd actually like, as well as where you are going to put it. My advice: go to a couple of mobile audio stores and check out their displays, find something you like and sounds good with your style of music, then go online and buy it there (unless you'd rather pay premium to support the local business).

Personally I've had MTX's, Kicker CompVRs, and been around plenty of others. The best sounding mainstream subs that I've heard are the old style CompVRs that I had in my BD and the Alpine Type S's that my best friend had in his X. Both seemed to provide nice tight bass that was good for the rock and occasional rap that I listen to. The MTX's I had in my first truck did nothing for me though.

I never listen to rap unless it's something for a bass test. Most of the time it's dance music or something other then rap lol

I have an MTX (400 watts RMS) amp with Pioneer premier (400 watt RMS) 12 inch sub and it blows my mind.

A good deck is also good to have for good quality.

lol...we just got done with a dance music discussion in AIM and on COD. Like I said though, listen to some setups and figure out which sub sounds best to you. You'll be happier in the end.

Subwoofers, I would pick JL Audio or Image Dynamics. Very smooth and responsive. Amplifiers would be Alpine PDX series, JL Audio Slash series, PPI or Phoenix Gold. You get what you pay for, Pioneer/Sony/Kenwood/MTX/Rockford Fosgate etc. are nothing like they used to be. Very underpowered and overrated. We have dropped a lot of these lines and have only kept JL Audio, Alpine, Eclipse and JVC. Mids and Highs, Diamond Audio/MB Quarts/Image Dynamics/Hertz/Eclipse/Rainbow are all good quality speakers, but are quite expensive.

I have a Pioneer 1000w DVC and a Premier 1000w DVC. I'm almost positive they are the same speaker. When installed in a box beside each other they say 'Pioneer Premier'. They provide a lot of bang for your buck. Sometimes you can find them new for less than $100. Whatever you get make sure to go to http://www.the12volt.com and find out how to hook it up right so you don't melt your amp. I hooked up one of these DVCs wrong and totally fryed a cheap Lanzar 1000w mono amp in less than five minutes. Don't get Lanzar if it ever gets hot where you live. Mine would over heat all of the time here in AZ and my fan cooled 300w Memphis blows the 1000w Lanzar away anyhow. I want a big Memphis to really push the DVCs.

JL Audio. Rock solid tech behind their equip, and the craftsman ship from their W7 line travels through down to the W1 line. The best sub from an audiophile standpoint is the 10" W7. But it is big. I have a 10" W6 in a sealed box in the trunk of my 05 legacy matted to a polk audio momo edition 500 watt monoblock. Its in the perfect power range. It's amazing. 10" is ideal if you don't listen to a lot of rap but rock, and anything else. But it comes down to how much you want to spend, what you're sub is going to be reproducing for frequencies, and what you like the best. Listen to something that your friends have, and then you'll figure out what is good for you.

Clarion from my experience in the past was always a good competition type company. They were up their with Orion but I haven't been in the audio game for years.

In all honesty, this is for everyone.. any decent brand name sub will give you kick.. it also depends what box that sub is going in if it's the correct size. In my custom box, I never ported it at first and it just gave really flat bass. I took it to the shop that I bought it at and the guy said that in such a small box I need to port it so he gave me that 3" and when I put it in.. holy shit.. it hit twice as hard.

To OP, I have a BD, with a full Alpine system. Here's pictures, with a custom made fiber glass box.

The amps are: MRV-F345 4 Channel and MRP-M450 Mono.

All speakers are Alpine Type-R, with a 10" Type-R Sub. This setup is crystal clear sound and the bass is just perfect in that tiny little box. I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck moving and if I want to make it louder.. I simply pull rear seat down for that little bit more extra kick.

You can't go wrong with Alpine, their customer service is amazing too. They have very expensive models and intermediate to lower end models as well which is great for choice.. I settled for the Type R's as they were in the middle. The PDX series are their top end competition stuff.

I had a problem with one of the cross overs and the sound was always adjusted to the left and they walked me through step by step to correct my mistake. Alpine gets my vote :smt023

the setup i have is awsome. a kicker CVR 15". it takes up about 2/3 of my trunk in a ported box, and takes 1,500 watts of power, but WOW. the bass is mind numbing. and if you run a relly good CAP and power wire it makes the rock music extreamly intense. i think there around $160-$200 each.

I started off with 3 10" MTX back in the day. A good friend of mine then became a deal for
Cadence and I ran a bunch of different set ups through him in my ZJ. Every couple of weeks we would try a different set up. Ultimately I ran a 15" Cadence Beast in an Identity Audio "BOMB" ported enclosure off of a ZRS-1502 amp at 4 Ohms 1 x 600 mono RMS. It was a nice little mirror shaker.

I also ran Cadence 6.5" speakers in my doors with the stock tweeters off of a Kenwood deck. I was happy with their equipment.

Here's a shot of the set up with an old amp:

I would advise JL Audio if you want the best sound quality.
Rockford or Kickers are the best if you are on a budget. (i've had lots of setups from when I did DB Drag and SQ)
Iv'e got a JL 10" im not using anymore, and a sony amp (Older style, not as crappy as new sony.. lol)
Currently runing 2 10" Kicker Comp VR's
I would stick with a Rockford or an Alpine Amp for the best sound, or again JL if you want to spend $1 per watt... lol
The most important thing is to just actually match the sub/amp you have correctly; to many people over/under power their equipment. And pick a box that is going to sound good with the music you like.

Sealed= everything faster, tighter bass, lower DB
ported= more towards hip-hop, little louder at certain Freq, more important to tune to the sub.
Bandpass= only RAP or Competition really. not saying a bandpass sounds bad for anything else, just only sounds good at very specific Freq, but much louder.

10"= Sealed 99% of the time (Kickers, Infinity, Sony), ported for some subs is very good also (JL, Rockford, aka normally stuff with higher RMS)

also for an amp should I get a mono for the sub and 4 channel for the car speakers?

Please answer the following questions:-
1) What is your budget?
2) What type of music you listen to / Describe your listening tastes in detail / Your fav. artists?
3) How serious are you about your music?
4) Can you DIY the install? Or some good installers in your area?
5) What equipment have you heard till now and liked or disliked?
6) What is the current equipment installed in your car?

Just need some basic info before I give you my recommendations.

The more I looked I think I will go with the Pioneer Premier TS-w1007D2

It's a Dual 2-ohm sub it's 350W I should match a mono amp with the rating of the sub right?

I wont buy anything until I get my windows tinted before it gets hot.

It would be matched up with the Kenwood KAC-6104D

# Class D Monoblock Car Amplifier
# RMS Power Rating:

* 4 ohms: 200 watts x 1 chan.
* 2 ohms: 300 watts x 1 chan.

# Max power output: 600 watts x 1 chan.
# MOSFET switching power supply
# Input Sensitivity: 0.2V-5.0V
# Cast aluminum heat sink
# Speaker-Level Inputs
# Variable Low-Pass Filter: 50Hz-200Hz (12dB/oct)
# CEA-2006 compliant amplifier
# Current Consumption: 21A
# Frequency response: 20-200,000 Hz
# Dimensions: 9-1/16”L x 7-13/16"W x 2-5/16”H

Im running JL Audio amps and had a rocking 10" JL sub. I will buy JL anyday, one 10" will be great in a wagon. Did just fine in my sedan as well. If you have questions i could probably help. let me know.

My faves are JL, MB Quart, Kicker is good

MB Quart speakers are great and Dimond Audio too

If your looking for cheaper i would say Fosgate and pioneer same with amps

A buddy of mine just got his two 12" JL subs stolen out of his Bronco II. He replaced them with Rockford Fosgate 12" subs and he likes them a lot more than the old JLs.

From the dead lol always wanted to say that! In my opinion sub wise i would go kicker in a ported box if you want loud. Sound quality wise Eclipse makes some of the smoothest sounding subs i have ever heard and ive been working with car audio for about 8 years now. I run 2 12" older kicker L5's in a ported box with older kicker RS65 in the doors and Kicker K60's in my decklid. I power the 2 12"s with a kicker XS50 cheater amp, means you can run your subs at 1/2 ohm which most amps cant do (most can run 1ohm) the amp is 600 watts at 1ohm but it is 1200 at 1/2 ohm. i run the components with a eclipse 100x2 wihich gives them a lot of clarity even at loud volumes. Both are expensive but if your going to invest you might as well spend the money and get quality instead of something that will crap out on you within a year. (Also look into used older stuff like 1990's and early 2000's cause thats when the quality was the best. In my opinion all brands have lost a lot of quality over the years. This goes for anybody looking into car audio.

If you want a cheap easy setup get a powered tube. I had a 8" in my saab that was pretty decent. At least I could piss off the guys in their trucks listening to country. Couldn't turn it all the way up as it exposed all my rattles.

It was $50 with tax. just had to wire it up.
