would a leggy spec b tranny bolt up to an ej25 out of a 99 outback legacy? if so what would the advantages/disadvantages be? mainly would it compromise acceleration?
First thing to think about is, where would you source this Spec.B tranny? They didn't start the 6mt until 07, and as far as I know, none of those cars have been reported totaled.
Are you planning on keeping your ej25 n/a? Or would you be doing a swap? It'd be a lot to consider having a heavy duty drivetrain being powered by a light duty n/a engine...

The gearing on the 6mt is lower than on most N/A 5mt's. (3.9) On a stock ej25 it may actually make your car feel slower.
source a 4.11 or jdm 4.44 5mt and you'll get better acceleration.

you know this is exactly what I was looking for.
eventually...(once I save 3k) I will be swapping an STi motor into my legacy and a 6MT. I want to know if the swap to a 6mt is the same as a swap to the 5mt?
anyone?
The 6spd transmission alone will cost at least $3k. Add all the other parts (diff, clutch, shifter, axles, etc.) and your up to almost $4500.
Just my 2 cents.
The 6MT is physically longer than the 5MT, so you will need a different driveshaft too - though I think one from an automatic works...

Yep - the 4EAT driveshaft fits the 6MT conversion.
