Can Bd 98 = 6 speed?

Sure can. Need an auto drive shaft and the right rear diff to go with.

Don't forget axles and hubs!

You'll find a lot of info on rs25.com and nasioc, the BD/BG are very similar to the Impreza in terms of swapping a 6-speed.

Basically you'll need the trans, clutch, flywheel, rear diff, axles and hubs.

You may be able to use DSS axles, but you would probably still need WRX hubs due to the different ABS. Most likely easier to swap hubs at the same time. That of course leads to the question of ABS and brakes.

You'll be able to use an auto driveshaft (the 6-speed is the same length overall as the auto).

There is more to it that that, research is key as with any swap.

Just go with the STI r180 rear if you are going to do it. Retain ABS, and get the OEM rear Brembo's.

Does it make any difference whatsoever when you swap out the factory 5spd? Auto? to a 6 speed set up?

if it was a manual the ECU shouldnt care about the 6speed. if it was an auto, u just need to swap the pinning at the ecu to change it to manual. the sti will need an aftermarket controller to control the center diff with this swap....

also u do not need to do an axle or hub swap to get a sti tranny in the car and working. just need the correct gearing in the rear end. my friend did this swap into his BC and just had to swap out the axle stubs in the tranny.
