Hullo all,

I'm replacing all 4 brake discs/pads on my 98 GT sedan this weekend. Any tips? This is the first time I've done this myself. I read somewhere that sometimes you need a special tool for the rear brake with the e-brake on it. Is this true of the 98 GT?

Thanks!

It shouldn't be. Just use a c-clamp to push the piston in. Remember, when pushing the pistons back in, take some brake fluid out of the reservoir. A turkey baster works well. My '99 was just as easy (well, not quite) as my '98 Jeep. Just take your time, remember the steps in which things get taken apart/put back together and you'll be set.

If this is the first time you've ever done the rear brakes, I would suggest ensuring you have:
a) a spare car for running parts
b) you are doing this when a parts store/dealer is open

I chose C - have a professional do my 100k rear brakes... factory e-brake shoes + adjustment + rust = no fun.

Front brake rotors + pads are easy to do, just follow the DIYs - same with the rear brake rotors pads. You may need the M12 bolt to get the rotor off the hub though.

If the rear brakes are anything like my BH, then you'll need a 6" extension to get to the rear caliper mount bolts. The front bolts are larger than the rear, too. Also, after you push the calipers back in, pump the brakes a few times before going out on the road. The first one or two times, the pedal will go right down to the floor. And if the e-brake assembly is the same as on the BH, then don't forget to take the e-brake off! I made that mistake and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the rotors off!
