Soooo my 97 legacy GT shat out the HG last week. Im going to get it fixed on the cheap and put it up for sale. Im currently looking at a white 2000 impreza outback 2.2L 5 speed with 110,000km. Body is in good shape(only a rust spot on the drivers side rocker panel), he has replaced the front struts and rear wheel bearings and front fender, bumper and headlight (he was in a fender bender), CARFAX came back clean... He is asking $6995 certified (im not interested at that price). So my questions are:
Good car (Any problems with this model or year)?
Is the HG problem limited to the 2.5L?
And what is a good offer to give (Im thinking about $5500 or $6000)?

Any input is greatly appreciated

Really need pics to determine if it's good value, but it certainly looks like it.

I had a 2.0l Impreza 5spd and they are great cars to drive... lightweight and very good throttle response. The HG's are primarily limited to the 2.5l but the 2.2l can go if it's been abused.

My buddy has a 2.2L impreza outback auto and he loves it. They're good cars, but that seems like kind of a lot of money. They're not particularly uncommon and I'll bet if you shopped around for awhile, you could find one for cheaper.

I dont know if this link will work but:
http://www.trader.ca/Search/Details.asp ... 7296266%7C (http://www.trader.ca/Search/Details.asp?mknm=765&Region=-1&subcategory=&CAT=1&ADID=7296266&ADS=7296266%7C)
Thats the car and info... i have taken a look in person and its in good shape, the interior is spotless. He has brand new summer tires (i have brand new winters that would fit).
But like i said i dont want to pay $6995, the most i would pay is $6000 cause im a starving student. I havent taken it for a test drive yet but im going to do that next week.

For that price you can find something nicer, don't jump the gun.

I say keep the car. Drive it until it dies. I felt the same way when my HG went too, but when I got it back I just jumped back on the sli band wagon and kept going with my BD. I say keep it. You've done enough to it

If it helps, the Imprezas of the same year-to-year as the Legacies have about 25% less sound deadening, and a lot more rattles. My Legacy doesn't buzz the paneling much, but my Impreza drove me nuts. I finally broke down and installed some Dynamat Xtreme on the rear trunk section, the front doors near the speakers and put whatever I had left on the rear doors.

Thanks for the input guys. I still havent decided what im going to do. It all depends what my car costs to fix and i'll know right away whether i want the outback as soon as i take it for a spin. The other thing is my leggy NEEDS struts and the tranny and clutch are becoming really weak. Tranny grinds third all the time now, second is hard to get in when its cold out and my clutch slips like crazy(i know its not expensive to put a new clutch in while the HG is being done so its not a big deal but the tranny worries me). The price of the outback isnt high for around here... i live in sudbury, ontario, CAN. and there isnt too many good used subarus for sale here up north. But like i said im going to drive it and try to get him REALLY low on the price and we shall see what happens!
Thanks again
