I want to make more power out my engine but don't want to spend a fortune. Any tips or pointers for simple upgrades?

Intake, exhaust, swap. Best bet to have a car with good power is to buy one that's already a turbo and build from there.

Your best bet would be to search the forums for the hundreds of threads by members before you asked the same question.

#1 Good advice to start with

#2 Your not guna get much out of the 2.5 NA or any NA subaru unless u spend alot or turbo it. Im in the same Boat. Personaly id say that if u have like $2000 bucks or more and your ready to make your car fast i wouldn't spend it all on little parts i would just save it for a swap then you get a turbo and parts that can handle it. Or focus on hadling first but that isnt going to make ur car "fast".

thanks man i appreciate the advise. i think that i am going to do a catback system, some lightweight pulleys and headers.

yea i just got the pulleys well a crank and alternator i wana get a cat back next

i think the pulleys will free up some power, the stock ones are really heavy, catback would make some more power and sounds good

NO! These engines are not designed for HP gains. If something goes wrong you will blow a head gasket and or bend a valve...ask me...It happend to me. Just keep it as a daily driver and save up for an older EJ22t engine or buy a used WRX. check out legacygt.com or nasioc.com for used cars for sale. I love these cars but the 2.5 engine is just trouble prone when you put strain on it. Good luck.

You are thinking about bout boosting a stock EJ25D. A properly built EJ25D can be built for power.

The EJ25 Phase 2 is a different matter all together. the phase 1's are just well... better off getting something else (which is what I am doing). As much as I love the sound and torque response. I am just giving the best advice from my own experience. when I bought the car while working at the dealership every single mechanic told me to just save up for a phase 2 or EJ20. wouldn't you know it a little bit of gunk got caught up in the cams and the whole engine went kaput! re done-heads, timing belt, and a bill of about $800 got the thing "running". I would have been better off selling the engine outright while it was running and throwing in an EJ20.

All I am saying is that the Phase 1 is prone to issues and problems. yes, there are people out there that can add power and keep them reliable but it takes a good person with mechanical skills and patience. Just better off getting something that has a history with reliability and upgradability while not killing your pocket.

phase 1 engine's are great, can be built up more then the phase 2's. sure theres the HG's problem but the phase 2's have one also. but if you keep up the mantainace on any engine it will last long. plenty of people have put huge amounts of power into the ej25d blocks, just need the right components

I guess it comes down to personal preference with the build. I know the phase II's HG leaks are external and thus less detrimental. I've just about had it with mine. 3 engines later and I'm "up-grading" to a 2.2 lol! Let me know if anyone wants to buy one when I do the engine swap.

My 2.2 HG's are blown, you won't run away from it. Granted the % of the 2.2's are slim, it can happen.
