are there only two brands of direct bolt on high flow cats for a 97 outback? The only place i have been able to find them is at boxer4racing.com.

Stromung and Random Tech

Are there any other options i have as far as a direct5 bolt on high flow cat for a 97 outback?

I'm not asking too much am I?

There are other universal high flow cats.
But if you are asking are these the only bolt-ons, then probably, yes.

Also - please consider changing your thread title, otherwise I will simply delete the thread because the title is irrelevant to the contents.

You could get a universal high flow cat and have a shop custom fab it for you.

TWE make a high flow cat for the n/a subaru. http://www.techworkseng.com/Products/Su ... xhaust.htm (http://www.techworkseng.com/Products/Subaru_Performance_Exhaust.htm)
they offer it in 2.25 high flow and super flow, and 2.5 high flow and super flow. there cheaper than Random but more than Stromung/Cobb

Is the random tech cat really worth $200 more than the stromung?

I can't see how it could be. Granted, there may be a difference here and there between the two, but are they worth $200? Probably not.

Depends on where you live. EPA standards vary by state.

ummm any where but cali (minnesota) but if i go to Wisconsin or Michigan, N/S Dakota, or iowa i dont wana get fined...although nobody would ever stop my car for that

you can't get an out-of-state ticket for emissions if your car isn't registered there - hence the out of state bit.

However, you do need to meet EPA standards for Minnesota - and be warned that if your ECU is specced to seeing CARB standards and you modify to Federal (48 state) then expect to see CELs if you don't take the correct measures. Search for O2 spacer threads and P0440 OBD codes.

I've got another question to add to this, and it may be silly, but i just dont know the answer.

Okay, i have an outback wagon, what part of the exhaust takes the exhaust the distance needed to reach the back of the car. like whats the length difference in exhaust elements from a sedan to a wagon. Is the midpipe longer, or is the axle back longer?

I hope that makes sense.

midpipe is longer. akleback for sedan and wagon are the same length/size.
