obviously im dumb..HELP!!!!!

setting the timing on a subaru is a bitch. i followed the service manual to the letter and everyone is saying my timing is off. the car wont run so i beleive them. now on the crank gear there is an alignment mark and a arrow.. the arrow is top dead center and the alignment mark makes all the pistons in the middle of their strokes. WTF. do i align the arrow to the line on the block or do i align the lil mark???? im about to set my timing to TDC and put my motor back in for the 9th time. i want to drive the car im paying for. HELP OUT GUYS PLEASE.

line point to 12 o'clock. and the arrow to 3 o'clock

yah i had the same problem. llike decke said, allign the line on the crank shaft gear with the mark on the block. dont allign it with the arrow, the arrow should be pointing at 3 oclock. good luck

have any luck? also the keyway should be pointing at 6 o'clock

ditto 'bout what they said on the crank sprocket, also does your timing belt have markings for #1 TDC if it does you'll be able to line every thing up much quicker by lining up the cams to #1 tdc and then just making sure all the marks line up
