Let me start off by saying I have searched and read a bunch of topics, but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

What I'd like to know is, what options do I have for struts and springs for my SUS. I know there are the KYB strus and Whiteline springs that a lot of people run. But I'm also curious about what stock parts may work and could potentially be a cheaper alternative. For example, if someone is selling their stock suspension in order to upgrade, I have a feeling I could pick that up cheaper than the aftermarket stuff.

Thanks.

Any standard Legacy L, or GT springs & struts will lower your car about an inch.

To go lower, you can remove the body spacers on your frame - you will need an alignment. That'll drop you another inch.

After that, everything else is the same - all your aftermarket suspension options become the same as every other L, LSi, Brighton, GT in the same range of year manufacture.

So in order for me to "fit in" with regular Legacys and have the same options available, I'd have to remove the body spacer? If that's the case, I think I'm getting into more than I want to.

I think I'd rather just pick up some stock parts and drop it just a bit. Unfortunately I won't know what kind of gap I'm looking at until my wheels arrive.

PM sybir... he has coilovers on and I'm not 100% sure he removed the body spacers. But his general commute is probably a lot more forgiving that the terrain that you'd be on.

I've talked with Sybir extensively about his Outback and the various suspensions he's run and everything pertaining to his sic arse Outback and NO he has NOT removed the body spacers from his. Supposedly the GT springs are the same as the Outbacks it's the strut that is different. I, myself, am going to be eventually replacing my Outback struts and springs with KYB GR2s and Whiteline Control springs to really drop my Outback and keep me from wheelin it (it's too nice). I looked at getting OEM GT springs new but they were more expensive than the Whiteline's so figure I'd go the cheaper and more performance route with the Whitelines.

I already did, thanks. He's been running coilovers on his and didn't have a whole lot of first-hand knowledge with a strut and spring combination with his Outback. He was the first person I went to seeing as he's always up to something.

Good info, thanks. That's what I was curious about, too, was whether or not new OEM replacements would be more or less than aftermarkets. Any timeline on your purchase? I'm curious as to how yours will look.

Ohhh boy. And here I thought I was planning for a winter project, haha.

How much are we talking here? What's the mileage and usage of said struts and springs?

Time line for my purchase is a year (gonna do my WRX/ LGT brake upgrade at the same time) if all goes right.

Gotcha. I should wait too, especially for the winter, and save up some funds for once.
