Play in shifter

For a long time I have had a good bit of side to side play in my shifter and I just swapped out the lower bushing with a 1 piece poly urethane bushing from Boxer4Racing and it helped with the shifting but not the play. I noticed while I was under there that the part where the fork on the upper linkage connects to the rod in the trans that it seems loose. Could that be where my play is? If so how do I fix it? Also any other places where I might have play?

i would say you might have play in the rear shifter bushing. but the way your talking about the play with the rod in the trans that would have to do with the teflon bushing on the forks inside the trans i would think

The fork itself on the outside was a little loose tho but the rod coming out of the trans wasn't loose. I did notice like a small 8mm bolt on the fork and I was wondering if I should try to tighten that or if I need new forks?

Sounds like you need new forks to me, though there's no harm in tightening the 8 mil bolt and seeing what happens.

Thanks. I wonder if taking it off and putting a little sleeve in it would keep me from having to replace it. I don't have the money for a new one right now. For those that don't know what I'm talking about here is a pic of the part I'm thinking is the problem.

Is there supposed to be a bolt holding that piece on or is it supposed to be a roll pin?

From the little bit of Google research I did, sounds like a roll pin.

Thats what I was told. I got a buddy looking in his parts bin to see if he has an extra one just laying around that he can send me as well as a roll pin.

From what I understand, it looks like just about everything having to do with shifters and linkages on that transmission isa roll pin (note I said "just about", there are a few exceptions, I know, I know)

I just hope that he has one that isn't wallered out like mine. If it fixes the problems then I will be super happy. If not I will be looking at trying to fix mine to where there is little to no play.

Look at the design of a roll pin. Inherently, it will eventually wear down, especially when they're used on something that is moved frequently. I'd be willing to bet that after you replace it, the problem will be solved.
