View Full Version : What caused this creaking?

I was driving the Outback a couple weeks ago and all was fine. Suddenly, all four struts creaked every time they'd compress or decompress. Under acceleration, braking, and turning, they'd make a creak sound that could be heard and felt inside and only felt outside. It lasted for about half an hour, then went away as fast as it came.

Now this doesn't seem like it'd make a difference, but here's the background of my activity prior:
There's a sweeping corner before I get to the school that has a suggested speed of 25 mph. I normally take it at 40 and on the way to school, I finally tried 50. It was cool, but I could tell it could do more. When I skipped school to get food at the gas station, I tried it at 55. Again, fun, but could do more. Finally, I tried it at 60 on the way back from the gas station which was freakin awesome! On the way back home after school, I went another way. An hour and a half after I got home, I went shopping and that's when the sound came up. Could the hard cornering have caused suspension creak? I've tried to recreate it and couldn't so far.

Worn bushings maybe... was the underside of the car wet when the sound wasn't present?

No, that's the weird thing. The only symptom was the creaking and it didn't happen for quite a while afterwards and it won't do it again.
