View Full Version : 99 stock legacy sedan gt 2.5 to .....?
Hey everyone, new here and I could really use some help. The car is a 99 legacy gt 2.5 ( sedan ) I believe its referred to as BD type? Now, does anyone know what other years are the same? for instance are 98-99 basically the same ? is the 99 a 2nd gen? What other front bumpers would fit up correctly ( no , not that honda stuff) besides the outback. =\ ANY help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm new here and just getting started. THX :-D

BD (2nd gen) was from 95-99
So any bumper of that style should fit.
Outback, Regular, or GT bumpers are your options I guess :)

IIRC, aren't there issues with small headlights and large headlights?
(and grill sizes)

You mean foglights? The headlights are all the same.
Yeah, the 95 style had a smaller fog opening, but then you can get yourself some nice JDM fogs like I have :D

no, I didn't mean foglights.
I thought that there was different size grills?
( with different body (BUMPER) molds?!!??!!?!?....?)
WTF.
what about USDM vs JDM bumper brackets? I heard they're different

95-97 headlamps are the same: one piece integral with the directionals
98-99 headlamps are seperate from the directionals
ALL headlamp & directional "kits" are interchangeable within the BD/BG/BK years. There are no such things as small and large headlamps. There are such things as 1 or 2 piece setups though.
95-96 have same bumper structures: small grille (similar to version 1 JDM BD/BG grilles)
97-99 L, GT & Outback have the same bumper structures: larger grille depressed into the bumper. (larger than last version of JDM BD/BG grilles)
To swap bumpers, you need the respective bumper beams and styrofoam (5mph bumper) underneath the bumper skin. For instance, you can not use a 97-99 bumper skin on a 95-96 without the under-guts from the 97-99 due to the 'depressed' grille. Or you need to modify the under-guts to allow for the newer skin.
Any corrections?

I don't know what I was thinking (talking) about.
file this with my haiku thred.
WTFWIT
I could put my headlights in the dryer.
(to make them smaller!!!!!)
thanks gator!
So, a bumper cover that says it fits 93-97 JDM BD should fit a 99 USDM BD , with maybe slight grill triming? Am I correct in this? You guys have been REALLY helpful so far =)

yeah, the JDM models were released earlier, but they're second gen Legacies.
It should work, provided the guts underneath (styrofoam) is fitted right. You may have to do some fab work...

DLS, as Mark said, yeah, should work.
IF you can, get the underneath stuff, just in case. But if you're good at modding, then you should have no problem customizing it (if necessary) should the original underneath stuff be slightly different.
Let us know if you venture out on this one.
