i gotta a 97' legacy and some of the warning lights, like the gas light do not work. Also the climate control lights do not work. I'm thinking a fuse or 2 broke but i dont have a manual so i'm not sure which ones. I was wondering if someone could take a look in their manual and tell me where the fuses are for the dashboard and warning lights. Thank You.

I have the same problem, all my fuses are fine.

there would only be a problem with a fuse if your headunit, HVAC lights, and all of the guage cluster lights were completely out.

I don't know the bulb number, but you can refer to my DIY thread to get your guage cluster out and see if you can find replacement bulbs for it. I found some bulbs of the same size as the fuel light, etc that were not being used (they were in slots like TCS, which I don't have).

Bulbs are burned out, or there is some kind of a grounding issue.

I know that my HVAC unit doesn't always light up - in fact the lights behind the icons don't at all, and when the icons are pressed in, the airflow is "sometimes" directed. Often I have to wait until the car feels like switching airflows.

A/C always works though, mainly because (I think) it has it's own plug.

I picked up a 2nd hand HVAC control unit to try.

Yes, its some sort of connection issue. When I pulled the bulbs out to color them, and then put them back in, they all worked again.

Correct

is it even worth the work to fix the bulbs?

try jiggling them around first, or take them out, and reinstall them, and they'll probably work again. That's how it went for me.

Depends on how much you like driving around without them.
For me, I'd replace the bulbs. Anything more than that, is probably a new cluster.

Cool, I am going to have to fix mine. They've been dead since I bought it, and at night it drives me nuts.

I had the same problem with my heater controls when I bought my car, turns out the bulbs were just dead. 3 dollars a piece at the Subaru dealer, also wouldnt hurt to clean the heating controls when you have it out. (Mine had TONS of gunk in them.)

Take the 4 screws out of the plastic trim that holds the Cruise/defrost/other buttons. Pull the trim out a few inches, then reach back and squeeze the top and bottom of the cruise switch and pull back. Unplug it and take it to your workshop.

Therse two little grey circles that house the bulbs. Turn the burnt out one counter clockwise about half a turn, and then try to shake it out of the hole (or use a tiny flathead to pry them out)

Check out the DIY section for a way to replace the bulbs cheap. Its one of my threads called DIY Bulb Replacement
