96/97 legacy intake trade?

in my 97 legacy L sedan:

there is a large airbox on the firewall side. and it just takes up sooo much space...

as i recall the 96 legacys dont have that air box.. and its just a curved tube that goes from the airfilter directly onto the intake manifold..

can i just swap those.....? or is what i believe to be true not true in the first place...?

You are correct, and you can absolutely swap them. Check out the pics Huffer posted in the eBay intake thread.

Installation is simple - I only had to cut a couple of hoses to make them shorter.
