power locks in 97 L sedan

My power locks kinda just conked out today.

i dont know what sparked it.. hahah sparked.. :oops:

after fiddling with the switch for a bit it suddenly started working.. - the switch felt kinda blank if oyu know what i mean.. but now it feels normal..

but after cycling a few times after it came back to life. the front doors were locking and unlocking as if they were very weak.. and a bunch of times the door would not actually unlock or lock fully. it would just budge..

and after locking a few times. i hear a noise.. something like a whining coming from the rear of the car.. kind of like a gas release..? or the scraping of rubber against plastic... like a dry o-ring..

now the locks seem to be going full strength


Any idea why they are doing what theyre doing...?

ps. originally when the drivers lock and unlock switch was dead... the passenger switch was working full strength.. and now both switches work about the same.. sometimes weak sometimes full strength.


and as a hunch.. does that mean somethings wrong with the central locking system in the drivers door.. or the actuator or something..?

Three things could be wrong.
1) Excessive resistance in the master lock/window controler
2) Problem with the wiring harness in the rubber boot located in between the door and the A-piller (open the door and look in between the door hinges). reason why I say this; I see a lot of older Camrys' with this problem...I know its a toyota but, im just speaking form EXP.
3) less likely because of your story but it could just be the door lock motor
