I dont have anywhere close to enough money to put together an exhaust setup for my BE. Right now I just would like some more rumble. My car is to quiet. I was curious if I got a muffler (cheaper one, OBX, ebay type, etc) and fabed it to replace my stock one (saw zaw, coupler, some hangers) would it give me a little more rumble or would it just sound like crap?

If you don't have the money now, save up for a nice one. It's tough to wait, but better to do that than spend your money on a shitty muffler that you'll want to replace anyway.

Find a 2005+ WRX or STi owner who has upgraded their exhaust and try to snag it for a few bucks. I've seen people pick them up for $50. I got mine for $75 and had an exhaust shop build me a new midpipe and rotate the flange/move the axleback hangers for $100. Got a new catback for $180 installed, and it's a sweet rumble.

i personally just put on a eBay $20 muffler on my car. Just cut the old one off and clamped on the eBay in case I didn't like it. But I think it sounds really good. The rest of the exhaust is stock. I've had compliments on it saying that it sounds better than some WRX's. But that is pretty much just personal opinion.

there is someone in the classifieds selling a wrx cat back for $350

more than a muffler but pretty cheap for a cat-back

I just finished fabing mine up from an 04 sti axle back. Just gotta grab a short section of 2.75 to extend the tip and paint the bare metal bits. Total should be less than $100, but I did all my own welding.

try an intake. it won't "rumble," but will sound more alive. stromung from boxer4racing.com sounds great. they have an axleback for $400. that may be a little high for u right now, but the sound it makes is worth it.

Worth it? That's a $250 disparity between an STi takeoff + custom midpipe and a Stromung axleback.

I'd personally take that $250 and go buy myself a nice rear swaybar or some lowering springs. I've heard the Stromung's and they're not worth $400. Maybe $200 for the axleback for new, bolt-on fitment.

You want mine? It's a 2006 wrx muffler. It's already got the hangers rewelded for a BE. The only thing is that the flange isn't there. The muffler shop will have to weld it straight to your current piping or reuse the flange from your current muffler.

Here's pics of it comparing it to the STi muffler I replaced it with:

I'll let it go for cheap. Probably much cheaper than you can get it anywhere else :lol:

Could you PM me how much you would let it go for.

I have a weapon R SRI on my car already and I am happy with it but I want that rumble.

The stock WRX exhaust is very quiet (and restrictive). If you're going for some more rumble I doubt you'll get any with that. The STi exhaust has more potential.

This may be ricey/ ghetto/ whatever, but a bunch of the guys over on lgt.com are taking out the gasket right before the muffler and replacing it with 1 or 2 ss washers to create a "leak" pre muffler. I actually tried this for a few days and it sounded suprisingly good. Lots of throaty rumble. I just decided I wanted it quiter. Definitely not a permanent solution, but may get you by until you can afford a proper setup.

I am going to use the wrx axle back and if it does not give me any rumble I will probably eliminate my resonators and see how that goes.

Do not do the WRX piping, restriction and modification isn't worth it.. and resonator deletes will give you raspy rumble.

Modding on a budget hurts.. Just save up. I know how it is to be low on funds..

headers = 250-300
cat = 100-150
piping, flanges, hangers = 100
install = 150-200 (or free if you have a hoist , welder and a friend)
-------------------------
in the end you will be much happier.

You want that sweet, sweet boxer rumble.. Do it right the first time..

huffer... STI takeoff?? "Maybe $200 for the axleback for new, bolt-on fitment." what do u mean by that?

maybe a borla/replica header? i agree with the sway bar idea. i put a front strut bar and rear swaybar on my car and if felt like a totally different car.

If you can find an axleback that bolts on, and it's $200, then it may be worth your time and money instead of hacking up one to make it fit.

I just don't believe Stromung's are worth $400. It better be made of titanium and super light for that price.

each stromung piece is stainless steel.

I bought rougeben83's 06 wrx axleback and I am going to have my exhaust shop make a custom 2.25" catback with resonator.
