i'm new here, thinking about buying a 91 legacy 5speed awd sedan for winter dd. 179k miles, sunroof, a/c, power windows/locks, new alternator, and cruise for $1000. is this a good deal? anything i should look for? going to check it out tomorrow.

Welcome to the Thunder Dome!

It sounds like a hell of a deal. Check for rust and make sure the turbo and it's bearings are in good shape. Sounds like it's been well taking care of.

You have no idea how much I want a 5sp turbo BC.

i was gonna check the turbo right away for shaft play. I have a 05 srt4 with a built motor, dbb 50 trim turbo with full supporting mods so i know the usual stuff to look for. it should be pretty fun for Mn winters. it doesnt look rusty but i'll be getting more pics shortly

$1000 is worth it all day. I'm sure once you start to mod it the SRT4 will turn into the winter dd.

 haha no that definately wont happen, way too much power, and way too low to the ground. i dont get traction until 4th gear on dry pavement with it, much less snow lol.

I'd jump on a $1000 Leggy Turbo any day. Sounds like you know a lot about cars and motors and boost, so I trust that you'll make a wise decision on this one. Welcome!

Went and drove it today. It had some paint peeling on the hood and doors not a big deal. There was rust on the fenders, one was kinda bad. Started her up, sounded good. Noticed right away it had 3" dp, and k&n drop in. Also noticed quite a bit of oil below the IM on both sides, both VC's were covered and the lines to the PS pump were covered in oil. The guy knew nothing about cars and had only had the car for 6 months. So I'm sure he hadn't been letting the turbo cool down after rodding on it and what not.

Got in, autometer boost gauge above where the cd player would be, e-brake didnt work. Noticed right away the oil light was on, asked the guy how long its been on, he said about a month. He then said when you touch the gas it goes away. I touched the pedal and sure enough it did, so I took it for a spin.

First impression, wheres the beef. Maybe because i was driving my srt before that but i didn't really even feel the turbo. It was pushing 12-13psi, no intercooler. Cruise worked, sunroof was broken. Took it on some gravel to spin her around and see how it reacts. It was alright, not impressive not bad. The oil light was then staying on unless I was above 3300 rpm. Sounds like a dying oil pump to me. Brought her back, he showed me he had a top mount and some parts of stock exhuast that would go with it. I turned it down, I know the pump would've gave up on my way home b/c thats my luck. I've already got 4 vehicles so I wasn't in need of it, I just wanted AWD to play in the snow. Oh well i doubt it would have been as much fun as my 5speed metro is in the snow anyways. I'll probably get a snowmobile instead. Thanks for your input guys

That's too bad that it had to end like that. Oh well, other fish in the sea, right?

i'm going to keep my eyes open for another one. still wouldn't mind having one if one of my other dd's goes down.
