Hey all ~
I was wondering if anyone on here knew how much a 2001 Subaru LGT can tow. I have to make a trip from Dallas to Denver with a Uhaul trailer... I am asking you guys cause I have NO clue!

Thanks in advance!

Looks like about 2,000lbs with trailer brakes, 1,000lbs without.

Best bet is to consult your Owner's Manual.

More if you want to run a transmission cooler.

Running a transmission cooler isn't going to up your towing capacity. It will just make things cooler while towing.

You're still looking at a relatively small tow rig without a lot of horsepower, braking power, and a shorter wheel base. Don't forget the weight of the vehicle itself too.

If you tow above your vehicle's capacity, and get into an accident, insurance will not cover you. Best bet is to stay legal and tow the appropriate way.

Agreed! I just consulted with my mechanic too... he said not to go over 1,500 pounds total for the trailer.

Soooo, it looks like I am going to have to go with no bigger than the 5'X8' Uhaul cargo trailer - which weighs in @ 900lbs empty.

Off to figure out the hitch I need!

Thanks guys!

My BG4 has a warped frame because the previous owners did a lot of towing. Don't do eeet!

Hmmmm... they must have been going over the maximum rated capacity for the vehicle then.

This is probably going to be a one time thing for me... I have a lifted 1963 Chevy pickup that I can use for towing, around where I live. I couldn't even IMAGINE the gas bill I would have if I took THAT thing down to Dallas and back, let alone towing something!!!

LoL...

Running a transmission cooler isn't going to up your towing capacity. It will just make things cooler while towing.

Indeed, it will run smoother. If you're towing in a vehicle such as the Legacy where heat is a major enemy of towing, then it will help. Has anyone seen Subaru's new official tow package for the Tribeca?

Increases towing capacity when put together.
