I took the cover off the fuse box under the hood and noticed the fuseable link was replaced with a piece of wire. I turned the car off and removed it and it was hot to the touch.

I replaced it with one from my donor car and started the car and it felt again and it was warm.

Is it suppose to be? I have never felt one before, so I'm not sure if this is the norm.

Thanks Jeff

The wire may be warm simply because it is too small of a wire for the applied current and therefore has more resistance and heat. Try putting a piece of heavier gauge wire in and see if that solves the problem.

The best thing would be to go to the Subie dealership and get another fusible link. There's a reason why they are designed to disintegrate. I think they are like $10-15 bucks or something like that.

I did replace the wire with the correct factory fuseable link.

My question is should it be warm or hot to the touch with the car running?

Temperature is relative... you need to measure the voltage. I would suggest getting ahold of the FSMs or contacting the dealer.

If it's fry-a-tiny-little-egg-on-it type of hot, then yeah, that's bad. but if it's just warm, then you should be fine.
