I am going to sell my car and import a legacy RS. i found that its relatively easy to do with Subaru legacy's due to they are used as postal vehicles...

It's a freaking nightmare. It seems like it'd be easy enough, but there's tons of red tape you have to cut through and you'll find out real quick that it won't be worth the trouble. I was trying to import a RHD Legacy, also.

But that's just my opinion and I'm sure there are people who have been more successful.

You can't import a car that was technically available for sale in the USA.
A RHD Legacy was made in the USA.

What you can do is buy one, buy a front clip from a GTB or RS and swap everything over. That's been done.

Or if you REALLY want a GTB, just buy the one for sale by vickisgotawd aka ECS Performance.

its impossible to import a foreign car that was for sale in the USA. and you cant get it road worthly because its not OBD2 complaint, and saftely complaint the only way to import a roadworthy car is to have a foriegn citizenship apply for a longterm VISA. fillout a bunch of vehicle transfer paper(has to be a car avalible in the USA) and is really hard to get. and you can import you non-US car. for the time of the VISA.

Agree with huffer, buy a front clip, but get a GC8 because the GTB has soooooo much crap under the "bonnet" its not even funny and the harness alone prob weights 20 pounds (maybe a exageration)

if you REALLY want a genuine RHD legacy biturbo wagon, the one ECS is selling is pretty much what you're looking for ; and it probably cost less than importing one after taxes, shipping and all the red tape is over with.

IIRC, ECS pretty much bought a front clip, got a RHD postal Legacy, and mated the front end to the car...that's a lot of work to make it a real-deal GTB.

If you can actually get a GTB into america, DO IT. If you find you can't keep it, find a OUTBACK, and only an outback, since you will need a BG chassis. Then swap everything over like huffer suggested.


Oh, and make sure you only get a manual GTB, auto GTB's are sh!t. The manual GTB is the only one with the EJ20R - 3plug ecu, "yellow top" 440cc injectors, VF18/19 turbo's etc. etc. The manual GTB pretty much has the 206kw STi engine, the auto GTB's are just wrx equivalents dressed up in drag to look like a GTB.
