Sponsership scam?

I was contacted today by CarSponsership.com. They telling me if I work with them they will get me free parts. Only one problem, they say I need a credit/debt card to apply for it. Does anyone have experince with this or is under them right now? Thank you all who help. :grin:

i actually made fun of a friend cause he got accepted. he has a 89 crx that needs to die. it looks horrible with waves in the body and the whole car was rattle canned gloss black. he gave them $85 and never got anything. after 8 months he finally realized i was right. dont do it. they are a bunch of bullshitters.

it seems like a scam to me cause if its all free then why would you need to give them your credit or debit card?

talk to a local tuning shop see if they can help you do this "swap" and come to an agreement. EX: put the shops logo down the side of your car

They act as a go-between for people and vendors/manufacturers. I'm technically 'with them', and they've helped me find parts 'at discount'. But there's a few things you should know:

1-Right now, they don't seem to have the ability to get parts for swapped cars. I switched my front brakes, have it listed with them, but their interface hasn't offered me performance pads for the new calipers. I could probably resolve this with a call or two.

2-The older and more beat your car, the less likely you will get anything of value.

3-there's a catch to any sponsorship. They deal almost exclusively with 'show' type deals, put xyz decals on your car when you buy xyz's part, win your class at a show, and you'll be reimbursed abc number of dollars. I Show my car once per year, at a local event. The rest of it's life is spent racing and daily driving, and there is currently no race support there.

They do charge a minimal monthly fee, a couple bucks or so. I may get out of it soon, since the show circut really isn't my cup of tea.

They ask for a card to verify your credit history and also to make sure you can either get your refund(as in if you win a show and follow their rules) or get billed(if you buy a part at discount and don't follow their rules.

I hope this was informative. I'm neutral on the subject, and considering disenrolling.

Yeah deadlydave is 100% right on i was with them for 1 year and they did help me get parts at a discounted price, and like he said they will reimburse you for the money you spend if you win a show and you have there product in a picture with your trophey or something like that .... all and all i guess if you have the money to dump and you go to tons of shows then go for it!

if your broke and looking for free stuff... look somewhere else!

best way to get sponsorship is to deal with a company directly. and convince them what you trying to do and how you can provide/accomplish for their company. it hard to get a full sponsor. so every little bit helps. so you might need multi sponsor. you must attend some show, track (auto-x to drag) event or something. unless you building a SEMA or show car you are going to have decals

loopd.com is a good sponsorship sight for everything. I got sponsored through that site, but it's for some sort of "exercise recovery drink" that I've never heard of. They tried to scam me, so I basically scammed them back and got sponsorship. It's called Fluid.

Tha' an excellent way to put it. A lot of company's don't want to sponsor somebody's DD. But, dealing with guys directly, you'd be surprised. Just show them your unique vision.

Come to think of it, I'm basically going to get my Explorer sponsored. I'm going to use a guy's repair shop on the weekends and all his tools for free to swap in a rebuilt transmission. To make up for it, I'm going to run a bumper sticker somewhere on the truck with his shop's logo.
