So, here goes for another knock sensor question. I finally got around to running the CEL, and was taken by a wonderful suprise.

7 codes.

Misfire on all cylinders. knock sensor, 02 heater, and P1421 (eimissions control)

The 02 and p1421 I can deal with, so my real question is.........

Will the knock sensor cause all cylinders to misfire? It makes sense because it's messing up and causing lean misfires while accelerating because it's retarding, right? Or, am I really, really screwed?

To answer this properly, you have to understand what a knock sensor does.

A knock sensor is essentially an "ear" or listening sensor that senses vibrations from the engine block and if it hears something out of order it retards the timing and reduces ignition to avoid further internal damage.

My suggestion based on the codes you pulled is to determine the age/condition/appropriateness of the plugs, replace the O2 sensor and check your EVAP lines.

Clear your codes and try again.
Then when the very next CEL appears, stop the car immediately and pull the code - then fix that code (misfire, O2 whatever). Reset and repeat.

the knock sensor code could have to do with the misfire. so fix that first. replace the o2. and p1421(subaru) is Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit High Input so it has to do with the egr system
