I think Legacy and Reuben have done this to their JDM projectors.

I think Legacy and Reuben have done this to their JDM projectors.
it seems exceedingly easy. maybe just a little time consuming. nothing more than a boring evening at home w/o the kids & wife.
i think i would like to try to set it up with the driving light switch(rewired so they'll turn on/off at will, instead of being tied into the headlight switch).
my driving lights turn off when i hit the highbeams, and don't turn on unless my headlights are on. anyone ever get around this?

mine are on a switch for on/off whenever, I thought it would be annoying to not have control of them. guess I'm a control freak? :smt017

I'll be undertaking a set of these for a school project. I will be doing ring brakelights, rear turn signals, and front turn signals on our human powered vehicle.

Should be pretty sweet as I am able to keep down the total number of LED's, which means less power draw across the system, while providing quite the luminous display.

So- I've started on these lights and here's what I've learned.

1) The acrylic rod he used from home depot is crap. It's extremely brittle and not much larger than the 5mm diameter LED bulbs you can buy. So instead I suggest finding a plastics vendor in town. I bought 3/8" acrylic rod for $.67/foot

2) The larger rod can actually be used on a lathe, which makes drilling the holes easier.

3) Use a good cut off wheel. My cut off wheels were getting loaded with plastic making each cut a little different in width. In the end I used a 3/32 end mill and a 3 axis mill to cut my slots. But I realize most of you won't have access to this...

4) USE GOOD LED's! Don't go to radio shack. They're way overpriced. The $1.50 double packs are super dim. The ones worth buying are $4-5 each. Instead, go to www.jameco.com (http://www.jameco.com) and order some LED's there. In my case I bought some 2600 mcd (millicandle) led's for $.60/each. Twice as bright as what's available at radio shack, and coupled with a few other electronics purchases much cheaper than radio shack.

5) Buy reflective tape at walmart. It's cheapest there. $2/roll compared to $6/roll everywhere else. Walmart sells Duck brand (read duck tape) reflective tape. It's in the automotive section where lens repair tape would be. This reflective tape is reflective on the both the non-stick side and the stick side. It is hard to remove though. It's brittle and so you can only pull off small pieces of the tape at a time. So get it right the first time.

That's about all I have right now. I'll get pics up as I get the lights done on our trike.

I found some 18,000 mcd 5mm LEDs for $.99 at this sight..

I'm probably gonna order some since I already got the radioshack ones for the same price and they just aren't bright enough.
