So i'm installing Grimmspeed IM spacers on my DOHC 2.5, and i have come upon a problem. How do you fit the Hard line that connects the LH head and IM with the spacer installed. It doesn't really reach any more from the height increase.
To you that have installed the spacers, how did you deal with this? this seems like it would be a very common problem. I'll post a pic of the problem area when i get a chance.

Went to a specialty shop and had them lengthen the line by 8mm with a piece from my old (hacked up) line. Looks factory stock.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2007/09/Legacy016-1.jpg https://sl-i.net/FORUM/ A LOT of people on another forum did it the cheap way and had a fitting done after cutting the original line in half. I personally, like the OEM look versus the modified look.

Can you still have these made?

So this is the only way to be able to install the spacers then? Well that stinks, now i have to find an extra line to modify so i won't leave my car out of service to get these installed. Too bad since i managed to get the whole install done to find out that the line would not clear the added height.
So nobody has managed to install these spacers without doing this lengthening?

UPDATE: I found this on the website at the top of the listing for these spacers.
"NOTE: When installing on the Impreza Phase 1 you will have to cut your EGR tube in half and insert a heater hose between the the halves of the EGR tube to extend it."
so it sounds like they suggest heater hose to extend it, i thought of this before but wasn't sure how to cut the metal and how reliable the heater hose would be, only about 1" though right? Would this hold the pressure/temperature that is contained in the hard line? i may cut it for now to make it fit and get another line fabbed up to fit both ends with no heater hose.
so, any suggestions on how to cut that tube while it's still attached to the head?

Theres also a piece with two pressure fittings that it happens to be the extra length you need. I have one but I rather get a welded pipe. To cut the pipe use a pipe cutter, they are only like $5 for a small one.

i'm either gonna get the egr tube lengthened now or later and have the spacers in whenever i can do that. I'll post a DIY when i'm done either way so other people know about the trouble with these things on our cars. I'll keep y'all posted

caoutback made one for me and it fit like a glove.
Don't expect much hp gains from this little mod. I barely notice anything from it

i mainly want to help lower the intake air temp, that's why i think these in conjunction with my new DIY CAI will help keep the air at the lowest possible temp as is goes into the combustion chamber. The additional plenum is very minimal and thus i don't expect to see much more torque just maybe a little better throttle response.
And to be honest, i got these for $40 and wasn't expecting too much, just another thing to take off the list of future mods.

i just "found" a new EGR tube from a EJ25D project motor we have at school. I'm gonna mod it and then put my old EGR tube on the project motor. I'll be sure to get some before/after pics.
hopefully it'll end up looking just like caoutback's
thanks guys

what's the size of that fitting? You can get premade brasslines with the doubleflared fittings on the ends in various lengths at autozone.
You can just bend the 2 90" bends in place with your bare hands even...
Otherwise heater hose will work, you're not pumping a ton of hot exhaust gas (doubtful if it's even all that hot when it goes through the EGR) through the tube anyway...

A few questions so i can get this thing done right.
you say you had it done at a specialty shop? meaning like exhaust shop or what? (i will most likely be doing the work on my own in the VRI at my school)
also, from what i can tell this is a brass tube right??
I measured the OD with my dial caliper and got ~.4" -> ~10mm does this seem right? I'm gonna go buy some tubing and want to make sure it matches up well enough.
my plan is to either MIG or TIG weld 8mm into the middle of the spare EGR tube i have right now and hopefully install with the new spacers this weekend (out in the cold away from my parents sweet garage setup)
Just wanted to make sure i have covered all of my bases. Thanks!

i would think it was brased. i think the tubes are made from stainless steel

yeah the quality of that seam makes me think it was braised as well. i guess stainless would make sense for this high heat application and would also explain why these things are so hard to bend, but it just really doesn't look like stainless in real life (in my hand), it has that ugly brass color (yellowish orangish goldish kind of light brown) (super descriptive i know).
anyone know for sure about the material of this tube????

most manufactors use stainless because it has to withstand 800-2000 F gases and yes they look light brown stainless does this with high tempatures they are more likely to be made of 304 stainless(or magnentic stainless) for cost savings.

awesome now I need to find some 304 ss tubing with 10mm OD
