and I am still rolling on summer tires. DOH!

This was the light dusting this morning outside my apartment.
It's still falling now...crappers. The grass and pavement are completely covered with about 2". I have no idea how my summer tires are going to roll this afternoon.

We've already have 4" of snow here but it came and went. I was rolling on my summer's too and it was actually sketchy, glad I had AWD for going up hill but didn't do shit for going down hill (obviously). I'm rocking my snows now though and we have snow in higher elevations.

NICE skis, I just picked up a pair of last year's 4FRNT STLs, can't wait to be able to use them. It hasn't snowed really yet in southern NH other than flurries here and there that didn't accumulate, but god damn has it been cold.

Very nice. I've always liked the looks of 4frnt's stuff but have never had a chance to ride anything.

These should be the start of my quiver, and my everyday ski. Later (over the next few years) I'll probably add a dedicated set of powder skis and some park skis.

I'm stoked!

I save my pennies during the summer so that my car gets a full wash every week... under chassis, wheel wells, the works. So far it's worked pretty well.

d1giPhux
11-11-2008, 09:39 AM
+1 on that.. sometimes i will just go out in the driveway and freeze my ass off to wash it myself..but that only lasts till its about 0 degrees out.. then its just too cold.

99SUS SFD

I do the under carriage wash a few times during the winter, but only when it's warm enough. It sucks trying to get into your car when the doors are frozen shut.

How many people do you think do that? Its such a pain in the cold if you do it yourself. I'd rather it not snow so I don't have to.

Huffer
11-11-2008, 10:47 AM
Well when you develop your god-like power to control weather, let me know. :P

I use a machine wash - it blows the car dry too so the water doesn't freeze in the doorjams. After a particularly bad storm/salt laydown I will prewash the wheel areas with hot water + degreaser first, then roll to the carwash.

*shrug*

I stay warm, car gets clean... win-win.

d1giPhux
11-11-2008, 11:07 AM
Does your machine car wash do your wheel wells.. if so.. that would be awesome.. i need one of those around here.. haha. Also the ones that do under the car.. usually suck.. its like such a weak stream.. i doubt it cleans anything.

Huffer
11-11-2008, 11:21 AM

Yeah, there's a couple around here. BP has one, usually costs $8 a time for the underbody wash. The stream that cleans under the car is actually fairly decent, I can hear it hitting the exhaust and undercarriage pretty hard. When I roll in, I go pretty slow over the jets so it gets as much coverage as possible. It's got to be better than nothing. :)

One other thing I did was remove the plastic shield on the fuel pipe near the rear right wheel - the lower part of that simply collects sand/dust and traps water allowing the fuel pipe to rust. I took it off, sanded the pipe and sprayed it with black undercoating. Now it won't rust out on me causing a $300 trip to the dealer.

99SUS SFD
11-11-2008, 11:26 AM
That's exactly what I do Huffer, roll as slowly as possible. Eventually it shuts off though. Our "works" wash is $10 but is worth it in the winter time to get as much salt and shit off as possible.

Bhatman
11-11-2008, 12:41 PM
This is why I live in California ...no salty roads, no ice(only if going to the
mountains).

d1giPhux
11-11-2008, 12:58 PM
^ This is why we hate you.. haha just kidding.

Yeah, the 'works' here costs anywhere from $8-12.. but to get the under carriage (weak) wash done.. its the $12 one. Sometimes I'm just really cheap and i'll get the $8 wash, and then pay $2 in quarters and spray the underside myself and such.. that way.. it works out. Thats only if its above 0 degrees though.. anything else.. and its too damn cold to be doing that.

Reason
11-11-2008, 01:54 PM
Wow $10, theres a place that the "works" is $35. Damn Mo Vaughn and his fancy car wash!

rougeben83
11-12-2008, 03:14 AM
There's a bunch of $3 car washes around here, the one I go to is $1. $7 pretty much gets the whole deal including interior stuff...

Anyway, mud is good for keeping salt off your paint, right? I just spent two trips to the coin-drop power washer to get the mud off the undercarriage and there's still stuff left in there...

I caught black ice last night and ended up doing a premature FWD (Honda) drift-countersteer-drift-countersteer onto the freeway.
Pretty dangerous. Fortunately I did the right thing and let off the gas and let the car lose speed by itself, and I simply steered it slowly until the tires were able to grab again.

No panicky stabbing of the brake pedal and then watching the wall come sliding up...

I just drove somewhere on property at work on an icy dirt road. The first corner I came into it pushed for a second. Luckily the drive is uphill at first so I was giving her hell on the throttle to see how much I could break it loose. Was surprised a few times by fishtailing on the road (no other cars travel this road more than once or twice a day). Backed out of a driveway to get back onto the road and got toned out for a fire call. Stomped on it and spun the wheels like crazy.

I realize this is nothing to you guys, but for out here in Davis, CA with an elevation of roughly 52 ft, I find it impressive (or depressing?)

Both Monday night and tonight I worked the 6-10 PM shift. It hasn't rained, misted or drizzled at all, and I've returned to my car to find the windshield and rest of the vehicle completely iced over.

Sure, maybe first thing in the morning, but after 4 hours? Too cold for my liking.

We had probably close to 2 feet on the ground. It melted in about a weekend and flooded a lot of areas and roads. The snow was melting and it had no where to go because the snow was preventing it from going anywhere.

haha yeah, I wish we had snow, just not 76" worth. :smt002

It's just usually pouring down rain and/or snowing in my area from November all the way through May. January and February are always the worst months, yet today was almost a record high. When the high here is 60, it's usually above 32 at Lake Tahoe. Greater than 32 degrees = melting snow = shitty snowboarding = no fun.

Nothing super low, just gr2's and H&R springs, I guess low enough.
I was on my way home just a couple blocks away it was like a wall, good, good, blowing snow can't see how deep it was and bam stuck.
First pic is while I was stuck, it was a foot deep but it was snow that blew in so it was very hard. Second pic is once I was out I pulled up to the bad spot, use the light in the background as a reference point, wasn't very far. And there was tracks as far as I could see once I got out and tried to shovel, so someone made it but not me dangnabbit.

The parking lot at work today was empty so it was the perfect oppertunity to do some loops around the light poles. lol. She broke loose like nothing and slid nicely!
Both, I was going too fast to stop so I tried to keep going and that didn't happen, normally the road is plowed but it's not traveled much and hadn't been plowed in a week so with the snow we have got the last week it was just piling up from all the wind blowing into a spot. Yeah snow tires are almost a must with any power upgrades, if you can afford power you should be able to afford safety I always say.
I'm waiting to see some pics of you guys in the Philly metro, sounds like fun  I was hoping to see the Vikings get spanked but I guess we have to wait till tuesday for that.

wow maybe I don't want to lowwer my car now... I can deal with the fender gap with the summer wheel now...

damn I love my car :D I made $50 for just helping cars out last night :D My friend's MB E320 could not make it out of the parking lot and not in his own driveway so I helped him all the way home.

I did run into a stuck outback he tried to push into a parking lot that at the time 12" already fell I tried to pull him out but he was stuck good $5 just for trying..

It's going to take days for the clutch smell to go...

I did get myself a little stuck I had to slow to downshift which I hit some packed snow which highsided me.. however in 2 min going back and forth i muscled my way out :)

Going to have a family member do a video of me since my damn tripod mount on my camera broke.

this is my first time and year with snow tires on the Subaru it feels good For a test (not last night) but after work this morning on a half plowed road I wanted to see how fast I could take off.. not long for me to hit 30 at all.. and on the highway about 2 hours after they cleared it I felt ok doing 50 vs last years only doing 10 max.

I like these winter force tires.

Ridiculous, so many cars tried and failed. How many Subarus in that mess? What a good time for the bodyshops. That hill didn't look steep in the video. I bet 10 bucks that the last guy in the diesel was talking shit as he.drove past everyone on the hill. Tyhen total fail kicked in and he got owned lol.

speaking of that how does ins handle the claims when your car gets hit like 6 times when parked?

yeah haw one of the local weather forecasters who is almost always right is saying 20+ inches of snow for my area next week on Wednesday and Thursday for two (2) days that is a lot of snow, there will be plenty of pulling snow off the roof of the house for me. there is also the possibility of a major damaging ice storm too, which would suck, but fireplaces in power outages FTW.

Well, maybe not legacy related exactly, but my 94RS is under there somewhere - we got a dump here in Edmonton Canada (zac knows what I`m talking about!) of roughly 10 inches, from Friday noonish to Saturday around 4:00. They are saying that by the time we`re done, we may have 14 to 15 inches of accumulation. AWD, 275hp and General Altimax for the win. STi and I were ballin today. Doing the plowing that the city wouldn`t do, because I`m a touch lowered.
photos - enjoy!

Notice where the snow goes up to on the caddys wheels. He parked there because the neighbor had shovelled out earlier saturday.. infront of his house, it`s really high and messy
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/01/tn_IMG_9476JPG-1.jpg
Shows the accumulation. This path was clean Friday when I went to work. I didn`t shovel it friday night, or saturday till about 4:00 Obviously some of it was drift, but you get the idea. This is very unusual for us - we`re used to getting 8 to 10 inches once a winter, all at once.. but this is something.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/01/tn_IMG_9457JPG-1.jpg
If the street doesn`t look so bad, that`s because I`ve shoveled the parking spots out.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/01/tn_IMG_9454JPG-1.jpg

That`ll probably do for now. Cheers, my Legacy brothers!

Those banks are between 4 and 6 feet tall. We've got an accumulation of around 25 inches in about a week, it's incredible! I've never seen a winter like this before, and I'm DONE with shoveling.
