97 LGT... school me on overheating...

so I'm looking into buying the car... body is in decent shape, auto tranny shifts smoothly, but it is experiencing overheating... I'm thinking the normal, thermostat, flush cooling system, maybe water pump.... what else should I look at... is it worth the 2500 OBO the local guy is asking for it...

Headgasket..? If the headgasket need to be done, it might not be worth your time/money.

headgasket needing done.... coolant in the oil would denote that... I'll be sure to check for brown milkiness...

How many miles? has the headgasket done yet?

I didn't experience any oil in my coolant...it was always bubbling when my headgasket was toasted.

guy has owned the car for 3 months and he isn't aware if headgasket or timing equipment has been changed... car sits at 170k

bubbling in your cooling system was due to the compression leaking in I would imagine.

the head must of been done. start with checking that the fans work, look for leaks, make sure the not air in the system,then tstat and flush. after that it might be a water pump
