other subaru clusters in my 98 GT?

pretty much that, will any other subaru clusters bolt-in to my car?

i really hate the look of my cluster, and the fact that its not totally backlit. hell my 91 lumina was backlit. this is cheap as hell.

i'd love an RS cluster, or wrx, or just a newer legacy cluster... anything better than what i have!!!

The shapes are pretty similar between the RS and your car - but the RS uses a digital odometer. Therefore, the plugs won't match.
WRX clusters etc just won't fit.

You could try getting ahold of some white face gauges, that brightens everything up.

From my former VW life I've seen many people print their own black on white gauges and they look pretty decent when done right.

You could try inversely photocopying your gauge overlay onto some kind of white plastic...

I think a friend of mine in NZ once did it with his Legacy - took the face out, scanned it, and printed it out on a high grade copier, then dremelled out the holes, and reinstalled it.

if you're willing to put up with a bit of wiring mess, you could get a JDM cluster...I don't think they bolt up (at least not in fibuz's case) but it would be a close match, and would look real nice. See what you can find at JDMplace or eBay.
