hi

have just aquired a 2000 model liberty(same as Legacy). has 130000 on the clock. traded in a hyundai excel for it so a big step up in size and power(but it seems not acceleration in first). have been a member of a local car club for around 6 years competing in various events(motorkhana, autocross,khanacross) in a colt and the excel, and would like to do the same sort of thing in this car. so have joined for advice and tips on modifying.

What would good tires do to accelreation on a under powered car??

If you don't have power to break traction what would the benefits be? And I'm not talking about corning.

If you have bad tires you can break traction... so getting new/better tires is a good way to improve accel.

Quite a lot, actually.

Nothing actually. For proof look at the latest episode of top gear (season 12 ep 3) where they do just that. They put big brakes, better tires, and a tune up on a car to see if it would make a difference around the track. The brakes and tires made no difference. Only the tune up did.

i had an hyundai accent which was the US brother to the excel, i would say that when my 2.2L leggy was completely stock it was only a marginally bit faster in 1st, definitely faster 2-5 though. its all about the gearing and weight, now that I've freed up the intake, exhaust and have a lightweight pulley my little 2.2L definitely faster than the 1.5L i had in my accent through all the gears
