Hey all -

I'm still learning about Subaru's so not sure what all is out there....

I have a Team Voodoo billet shift knob on my Miata and I love it. What I like about it - it's very solid feeling, it lowers the shift point a little, and it's a direct custom fit (ie screws right on, no set screws, etc). Oh and they are only like $35 so they don't break the bank.

Voodoo did start making some knobs for Subie's but unfortunately they are in chrome or polished finish only. And I want something black. Following is a picture of the Voodoo style knob I have on the Miata, can anyone recommend something similar to this for a Subie? This one is blank but I wouldn't mind a subtle shift pattern or something on the top.

Thanks!

I dig my Prodrive, but it does get hot/cold depending on the season. Guess that reminds me that my hand should only be on the knob for shifts.

Looks like a cannonball.

I have the Kartboy billet knob. Nothing fancy. Just gets the job done.

Markus - TWM over on RS25.com is selling billet shift knobs, weighted.

You could theoretically buy one and plasti-dip it so that it has a grippy, textured surface.

If you shit like that, something might be wrong with your diet?

Huffer - I thought about painting one but am too lazy for that. But I might be able to get my buddy to plasti-dip one at work, so good idea there! Might also check out that TWM guy.

They're expensive though, so I doubt Markus is going to want to plasti-dip one.

He should probably just contact Vortex to see if they can make one for the 95-05 Impreza which should be the same pitch thread as the 95-05 Legacy. I have an 00 RS shift knob in my car.

Just to double back and add some info...................here are some of the options I found.

1) Voodoo knobs
website: http://www.thompson-automotive.com/voodoo.html
comments: only available in silver for Subie's
cost: around $40 (good quality, low cost option)
example: http://www.thompson-automotive.com/i//Voodoo_knob_Pearl_cropped2tn

2) TWM
website: www.twmshiftknobs.com (http://www.twmshiftknobs.com)
comments: uses an insert so you can adjust knob height, supports www.rs25.com (http://www.rs25.com)
cost: $100-$120 (not cheap)
example: http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/shiftknobs/images/alum-m1abrams.jpg

3) WC Lathe Werks
website: http://lathewerks.com/
comment: offers a bunch of different materials, weights and customization options
cost: $50-$100 or so
example: https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/11/WRX20TaperedPistoncJPG-1.jpg

4) STi Titanium shift knob (5 speed)
comment: make sure you get a 5spd one, seems like the 6spd's won't fit?
cost: $40-50 used on the other boards
example: http://www.hotsubarus.com/ProductImages/spt-sti/sti5spdtitanknob.jpg

So after doing all this research, what did I decide to do? I, uh, um...cheaped out and bought a used STi knob. If I had more cash I think I would have gone with a custom one from WC Lathe Werks.

Hope this helps someone in the future..............

Kartboy shift knobs (http://www.kartboy.com/basket/catalog.cgi?query_net_id=kartboy&query_class=KB-015) are available in black (and silver for those who prefer it)

http://www.kartboy.com/basket/images_large/kartboy/KB-015.jpg

The nice things, they thread right on, no adapters, set srews, etc. and the groove on the bottom of the knob is designed like the factory knob, to hold the shift boot.

They also have short shifters, shifter bushings and more, if you're looking for more than just a shift knob.

I have, no exaggeration, 4 shiftknobs from Chris at WC Lathe Werks for the STi.......he does awesome work and I'd go with his delrin ones with a weighted insert for your application; he'll do custom work including engraving as well.

All Subarus, 5/6MT, are 12x125 thread-pitch for the shift knobs, only difference is the reverse cutout and no boot lip on the STi knobs.

I just picked up a leather stitched shift knob from a wrx. (not sure the year)
weighs more, looks great, and feels better too.
shifting feels slightly smoother for some reason :smt017
