This may be a newb question but I have done a search and could not find my answer.
My car is a 1998 Legacy GT 2.5l Automatic.
My transmission shifts a little hard so I desided to swap out the tranny.
Got a tranny and rear end from a 2001 Impreza 2.5RS.
Is this a direct bolt in swap?
Any wiring need to be dont.
Im not asking how to do it just if it will work.
Thanks for your help.

I'm assuming you're swapping auto for auto, right? Not auto for manual?
Your Legacy should have a final drive of 4.44... the 01 RS auto I believe is also 4.44... and based on the link below it has an LSD.

Mechanically it should be the same, so yes it should work. If your Legacy doesn't have an LSD then this would be an upgrade.

Physically it will bolt it, wiring on the other hand is going to be a mess.
The split in 4eats goes like this:
93'-98' Phase I
99'-07' Phase II
You can swap any of the transmissions that are in the same phase (watch the final drive ratio!) but to cross over to phase II would be a nightmare of wiring. :-(

I figured that out, Went to bolt up the tranny and noticed a few differences. Im getting the TCU and wiring harness out of the doner car. Hopefully That will bolt right in and I can use this tranny.
