I have a '98 BK wagon that has had a rash of problems. Recently I switched the cluster to fix a constant high temp gauge (temps are in the normal range). After I switched the cluster the ABS and CEL lights were on. Seems that some bulbs were removed from the previous cluster :smt013

To get to the point....I was trying to pull the ABS code and from reading previous posts I thought you had to go to a dealer, but I just talked to a local Subaru mechanic and he said there are diagnostic plugs under the dash. Anyone have access to the FSM that can elaborate on this?

Secondly, how should I troubleshoot a temp gauge that goes to full hot regardless of engine temp? A headgasket job was recently done along with changing the thermostat (with a factory Subaru thermostat) The problem is somewhere between the thermostat and the gauge.

Probe the CTS for continuity. Sounds like it got an open circuit

That was replaced also...could it be anything else?

Anyone know about the ABS?

I just found this....

http://endwrench.com/images/pdfs/ABS.pdf

It gives this description to pull the ABS code:

"Accessing of trouble codes is achieved by first turning off the ignition switch, then
grounding terminal 3 of the 6 pole service connector B82 located above the accelerator
pedal, then turning on the ignition switch."

How do you ground terminal 3 of the 6 pole service connector?

Run a temporary test wire from pin 3 to a grounding point or bridge pin 3 and the ground pin...

I got code 21

"FR wheel sensor open circuit or input voltage too high"

So is that a speed sensor?

So I traced the sensor wire and found it to be ...disconnected in the engine bay :smt011

Anyone need to figure out an ABS light PM me.

Now, I have to figure out which wire in the cluster is power and ground for the temp gauge.
