So... I just got a 2001 legacy gt from my sister... and the timing belt has never been done. I am at 125 k and i know the recommended interval is 105 for the EJ25. It is an interference correct? and has anyone experienced their timing belt break? If so what mileage?

Thanks

post on nasioc to?

i'll repeat what they said yeap,
its an interference motor and get the water pump &thermostat while your in there

wouldn't be a bad time to get a lightweight pulley on there ether as your putting everything back together.

Yupp Ive been checking on every forum i can find. So far Ive got an app set up for this wed, timing belt, water pump, thermo, and all necessary seals. Now I just have to drive 430 something miles home to PA!!!

Im too poor for a lightweight pulley

Yeah mine broke last winter... what a fucking mess that causes... cost me somewhere in the range of $2200 to get everything re-done on the engine, including the timing belt.. and checking to see if any of the valves had bent.. replacing piston rings, headgaskets.. etc.. etc. This happened around.. $145k miles on my car or so.

So!!!!

I made it home all 437 mi... and dropped it off to get the timing belt done. along with water pump, thermo... and a LOT of other stuff.

I was about 80 mi from my house... and the check engine light comes on!! Im glad I had an appointment...

I got a call from the dealer yesterday.. $482 for just the labor for the timing belt. It needed inspection too and the check engine light was: It needs a new catalytic converter!!!!! YAY!! The dealer quoted me $2300 with the O2 sensors. My brother works for Napa and he can get me the cat for $250. So it failed inspection obviously with the CEL light on but i am so lucky i didnt get stuck being ripped off by the dealer too much.
