Alright well I keep reading that swapping in a baja turbo motor is easier to do than a wrx/sti swap, because you can swap the harnesses over vs cutting and splicing.....I was wondering if I could swap the motor and harness with out splicing wires out of 2004 forester, I found the engine an harness for $1000!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

You can swap any engine into any car depending on how much time/money/skill you have.

An 04 Forester engine will go into your 99... check out the galleries at East Coast Swappers, Broken Motorsports...DS1 Motorsports...etc etc.

Also - you WILL have to do some splicing. You don't have the dash cluster, dashboard, HVAC, etc from the Forester so you will have to splice/pin-match regardless. With every custom build (and they're all custom in one way or another) you have to do some wire work.

iWire over on www.rs25.com (http://www.rs25.com) will merge harnesses together so that your 04 Forester engine will talk to your 99 dash and your HVAC stuff will still work the same.

it can certainly be done and sort of has been by us at our shop.

Other things to consider are either finding a jdm or other market that sold a legacy wagon with turbo. There you will find either stock or aftermarket options for exhaust. You will not find a proper exhaust here in the US for that year OB. Or you could always make a custom midpipe to fit as we have done. Midas, Meineke or your local shop can extend a midpipe for you.

If you need any help or guidance, feel free to call us.

Another is Zephyr on nasioc he mapped my harness then I did all the cuts and splices when I swapped my 98. Well worth it in the end trust me. Saying you did the wiring over saying Ecs did it is always a plus. Plus it ran me like 200 or 300 bucks.

Sorry everything in the swap just turned into one expence

how much did it cost for zephyr to figure out your wiring for you? im considering a swap in the spring, and im perfectly capable of splicing the wires together but i dont want to have to go through all the diagrams to figure out what goes where, i just want simple instructions of what wires to connect to what

Zephyr is actually our wiring guy. He does many of them in house, but when he doesnt feel like doing them in the shop he takes them home and does them on his table.

His and all of our bios should be up on our website sometime soon. ;)
