View Full Version : Removing Needles From Gauges
i have a project in mind for my gauge faces but im afraid to take off the needles, i found an old temp gauge and had to pull like crazy, wobbling it back and forth to get it off..
anyone have any tips on taking these off safely? tools? etc...

PM Grafton, he's done this a couple of times.
But I would say that a little bit of heat and a nice warm ambient temp is a good start.

!!!! READ FIRST !!!!!!
Do at your own risk this is from my personal experience only !
no need to heat things to my knowledge, try to have a full/half tank/empty regestering on the gas gauge so you can reset it after you put the needle back in.
before you remove the needles for the speedo, tach, and, water temp lift them enough to slip them past the little stoppers let the needles hang free

remember where they hang down to so when to go to put them back in you wont have to guess as much to get them back into reading correctly.
you were on the right track as to removing the needles yanking really hard and wiggling a bit as well
when you go to put the needles back in it'll take a little force to get them seated properly
to check to see if you've gotten them back in alignment for the 5spd ~31 mph is redline ~6250rpm for the L in 1st

The trick is use to spoons. I've learn this from a member on here :lol:
