Welcome to the swap club ;-)

This reminds me of another Rio Red Legacy up here in Toronto:

Thanks Chris…

Man, how in the heck do you guys get those strut braces to fit? It looks like (from the pics) that it actually sits higher then the intercooler. I have absolutely no clearance for the top of the motor, and as I’m sure you know, rub like crazy in a number of spots. I’ve made some custom modifications (creative hammering) to help make some extra fluff for the tight spots, but overall the highest parts of the motor all have Rio-Red paint on them from rubbing under flex…

Mine is backwards, so instead of going up agains the back wall it comes out towards the engine. Just undo the brace from the brackets and give it a 180.

My strut bar doesn't sit higher than the intercooler, but I have about 2-3" clearance between the firewall and intercooler so it tucks in there nicely. The STi intercooler is a little bigger, so that's probably why you have no room for strut bar clearance. I know what you mean by rubbing... my engine rubs all over the hood. I raised my stock hood a bit by using washers to shim it, but my CF hood has a little more clearance, so I'm not rubbing as much now.

how long did it take you to change it all over?
It took about 3-weeks from in -to- out of the garage, which the last week was spent waiting on parts to arrive which I didn’t already have beforehand. I prepped the WRX harness long before the project began which took about 2-days, then the actual ECU integration into my existing harness took about another 2-days. Aside from some minor OBD-II bugs, I got the wiring right on the first shot and it fired up immediacy after splicing the last wire. Only two bugs still remain which I’m working through, one related to the 05’ transmission and existing shaft use, and the other with the totally different speedo setup.

Right now it runs great however needs tuning badly with the various modifications I’ve already made to the motor, specifically the intake and exhaust. I’m running a UTEC and my current (default) MAP’s are running super rich all the way throughout the boost curve which is dramatically affecting the performance. I’m not a tuner and don’t want to mess with the UTEC myself, so it’s scheduled for a full dyno and street tune at TurboXS next week. I’m hoping they can really get things dialed in and unleash the beast within…

I’ll have full dyno numbers, before and after, once the tune is finished.

I suppose if you want to keep it a sleeper, you could, but I'd have STi logos all over....besides, no one you were racing would ever see it, they'd just see a red blur  nice car!

I had to bump this thread, as we have alot of new people on the board who may have never seen this one of a kind car. I was watching this video and reminiscing:

What a great old project; I miss it sometimes. That vid was pretty early in the build-up stages too. It put down far more power later in the project life.

Last update I received from the new owner (who may be on this forum too?) was that the car is undergoing an STi 6MT swap. That should almost truly complete the STi in Legacy clothing concept.

I am the new owner of the car, and I rarely come over to this forum, but I am here now and then.

The 6 speed swap is complete, and I am now in the process of breaking in a new shortblock due to a bad piston ring. The 20G that was on the car also had an internal oil leak, so the 20G is being rebuilt and will be for sale shortly. Meanwhile, the car now has a Blouch Dominator 3 turbo, that will be tuned once I get 1000 miles on the new shortblock. I will do my best to remember to post numbers once I get a tune with the new turbo.

FYI, xcntrk75 was working on a very nice Forester XT last I talked to him.
