REV01 in summer?

just wondering what would happen if i ran a set of REV01s in summer.

i'm in melbourne and we don't actually get snow. and it looks like i'll be ending up with a set of these.

just wondering if the car will actually be driveable and how differently winter tyres handle to "non winter" tyres in summer.

In the summer, winter treads will break down quickly due to heat. If you drive a lot the treadwear will suffer.

ok, so they'll wear quicker.

let's assume that they last only half as long...


any guidance in terms of how they will handle?

majority of my driving is on the freeway doing 100KMH (60MPH)

You'd be fine then. The sidewalls will likely be pretty squirmy in the heat, that's a by product of the quicker wear because of the higher ambient and road temps.

Not ideal. I'd probably only run them if they were free, or you go skiing.

i have one good reason to not run revo 1s in the summer.... They are a discontinued tire. if one goes, your boned. seriously you can get some "crap" tires for under 200 bux that will still be far superior to revos in the summer, hell i got my revos for under 200 bux and they ROCK on the snow and ice, but i would never try and use them all year, however "possible" it may be to do so, the would probably be ruined by the next winter.

i've currently got some falken 452's on the car which have only done about 10,000kms, but the REV01's are coming with the wheels which i've bought.

i'm just wondering if i can use them or if shuold swap the falkens onto them straight away as it never gets cold enough in melbourne, australia to snow. in the mountains, yes, but not in the metro area which i live and work in.

i understand that the REV01's will wear really quickly, but i was more looking at the aspect of how they will handle in summer. doesn't matter to me if they give up after 10,000kms since they cost me nothing, well, in my mind anyway.

I have them on the car right now. we had a few 50-65F days during the winter and they did ok for normal street driving. The tread and sidewalls are much more softer than an all-season, or even a European-derived snow tire, you'll feel like youre driving on marshmallows. The soft compound did not translate to better dry grip, however, these are the only tires I've had on the subaru that I could achieve brake-lockup if I brake hard enough...
